Ford Focus ST-R race car debuts at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

By Tim Beissmann |

If you think the Ford Fiesta ST Concept is a little small, and the Ford Focus ST and ST Wagon aren’t quite hardcore enough, then maybe this is the car for you: the Ford Racing Focus ST-R.

The all-new Ford Focus ST-R is the Blue Oval’s latest effort to increase its global motorsport presence.

The track-ready Focus ST-R will only be available in North America initially, but Ford plans to expand its availability to professional drivers, amateur racers and track-day enthusiasts around the world in the coming years.

The ST-R has been purpose-built for the track by Ford Racing, and incorporates a powerful 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, track-tuned suspension, uprated brakes and an FIA-regulation roll cage.

Ford Racing director, Jamie Allison, said customers of the Focus ST-R would get a competitive turn-key race car capable of being successful in motorsport series around the world.

“Because the Focus ST-R is a production-based road race car, it features stock body panels and production parts where possible,” Mr Allison said.

“People who buy one will get will get a fully prepared race car that will only need communications equipment and the customer’s decals to go racing. We’ve already had significant interest in this vehicle from numerous established race teams.”

Ford says development work on the Focus ST-R will result in a range of Ford Racing parts being made available to racers and enthusiasts around the world.

Thanks for the prompt updates CA!

New Focus is obviously a fantastic car. The one car that can lift Ford back to where it globally belongs.

…But that indecisive front bar – it’s like a baby born with two faces. Listen to the fans, not your designers.

What is wrong with the front bar? It serve its purpose. IMO

Nice, one huge benefit for anyone looking to tune their new Focus ST will be the huge amount of cheap tuning kit available from the US, from the likes of FRPP. Previous gen ST/XR5 owners never had that because the car wasn’t sold in the US.

      Plenty cheap from the UK.

What class will the ST-R race in?

    • The Truth

In the “Small cars that have been stripped out, and go like stink” Class .. Obviously :)

Just found out it is eligible to race in the Canadian Touring Car Series, Grand-Am ST and World Challenge TC.

is it street legal if you pull the slicks off it?

Also, would be keen to hear a price in comparison to the regular STR.

OMFG I’m so wanting one of these. My current ride is a ST225…. should I stick with it? I dunno now… The graphic on this car is so frickin’ awesome… I might get something similar done to my ST225.
