2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series spied with aero kit

By Brett Davis |

Mercedes-Benz has been spotted testing a new aerodynamics package for the new Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series. The pack appears to include a range of more aggressive carbon fibre spoilers and side skirts on top of the normal, and already pumped, Black Series Coupe.

Since the C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series is already one of the most extreme models in the company’s current lineup, what better way to really cement that fact by launching a full race aero kit.

It comprises a carbon fibre front chin spoiler and splitter system to help push air over the C 63 Coupe, as well as carbon fibre front winglets and side skirts for added downforce. The rear also includes a new more serious rear diffuser system with a large boot-mounted carbon fibre wing.

Additional carbon fibre is also added to the C 63 Coupe to help keep weight to a minimum, such as carbon fibre side mirror casings and various carbon trimming pieces added to the interior.

Reports suggest the production version of the kit will also include a new set of matt black 19-inch alloy wheels, a fire extinguisher setup and KEYLESS-GO. No changes to the engine are expected to be made, not that the 6.2-litre 380kW/620Nm V8 really needs any further attention.

The Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series is set to hit international showrooms in January next year. Australian deliveries will take place mid-2012. This aero kit will likely become available as an optional extra.

That spoiler is a early April fools day joke… Right?

  • AndyGF

It’s a DTM car for the road. Looks SUPER HOT! (maybe skip the wing on the options list tho!)

Normal C63 Black Series already looks the business, but the aero kit made it looking ricey and looking way too busy.

Far out people have no idea what the idea ricey means… Rice is wear something is done to a car and has no performance gain, I’m not a betting man but I would put serious money to say that the whole aero kit on that car is functional!

      Spot on.

    • Yeti Man

      like the Porsche GT3RS

i thought ricer only means asian cars :(

      • Hector

just because it isn’t a japanese car, doesnt mean it can’t “look” like a ricer.

the rice is certainly there. in bucket loads. monster rice-wing FTW!

    • Tommy

that wing is still rice though, it wont have much effect at all in normal circumstances

  • placek

It is a ricer … at least looks like one … and it is slow cooking one

Rice… Are u going to be traveling at 300km/hour driving to your office or home?.. Because that’s about the only time that spoiler will be working. Like u said.. That makes it rice.
A lip spoiler would of been ideal.
    Everything else is beautiful tho

If HSV/FPV or a jap branded car came out with a shopping trolley spoiler like that. They would cop alot of bashing on here. But.. It looks like it’s ok.. Because it’s German? What rubbish

    • AndyGF

I agree with you that that unless its specifically setup with the right angle of attack, a rear wing like that (as the ‘ricer’ uses it) is just extra drag on a car (ie: rice of the worst kind-slows you down), and although I dont like the look of it, if he was driving to the Nurburgring, then it might not be rice…

I say, if the car can get up to that speed (which it can), that includes HSV/FPVs, then why not, and the people who mock it, are either not trackday enthusiasts, or just a little bit jealous.

      • o

I get exactly what you mean, yet for some reason the germans can make it look hot.

  • Andrew Juma

    I am in love.

  • UMWHAT

if i was there I’d tear that godless wing off

  • qikturbo

Yep,if I could afford the Black series I would definately order the aero package.I would need all the aero stability the package could deliver,as I manoeuvred the car around the streets hitting a top speed of 50 or maybe 60km/h!

Have AMG been spying on the HSV design team lately?
