2011 Toyota LandCruiser Altitude on sale in Australia

By Tim Beissmann |

Toyota Australia has launched the new, special edition 2011 Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series Altitude.

The Toyota LandCruiser Altitude is based on the GXL model, and scores a number of extra features on top of the entry-level 200 Series model: 18-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, touchscreen satellite navigation, leather-accented interior, power front seats, premium steering wheel audio controls, premium gear shift knob and a cool box.

Toyota Australia says production numbers of the Altitude model are limited, with Toyota Japan only building them in June, September, October and November.

The LandCruiser Altitude will be available with both engine options: the 202kW/410Nm 4.7-litre V8 petrol and the 195kW/650Nm 4.5-litre V8 diesel.

Prices for the petrol Altitude start from $80,190 before on-roads, making it just $2800 more than the entry-level GXL and more than $7000 less than the mid-spec VX model.

That’ll look fantastic taking up 2 spaces at the local supermarket, not!

    • A

mmm. I don’t mind these. As long as the person driving them is able to park them correctly. I agree with you Steve. Far too often some lazy tool couldn’t be bothered doing a few extra back and forth’s to get themselves straight and stuff it up for everyone. So annoying.

  • Toyota Guru

Nice to see Toyota Australia are still trying to get rid of those old, outdated, satnav units, which are fitted at port. Must have a warehouse full of ‘em. ;)

  • Daniel

I would have to go with a used Range Rover Vogue.

      Seriously?
For 80K… your used Range Rover Vogue must be at least 5 years old or run around 100,000km.
      Especially diesel model.
Out of warranty, service cost and replace parts…
few years old Disco 4 make sense, but not RRV.

      • Daniel

Haha I didn’t say it was an entirely logical choice, but it’s still the one I would make. And for the record, there are a couple of four year old Vogues with about 50,000 kms for $80,000 right now, so that’s not quite so bad. And you can get new warranties. Fair enough though, the Discovery would have been a fairer comparison.

  • bob

Does it still come with free oil consumption on the diesel or do they still say burning oil is OK

  • Dennis

Why buy these dinosaurs? the discovery is far better in all aspects even reliability

    • Mac

How about when it comes time to sell? HUGE resale difference. Or when it comes time to pay for service or pay for parts. Sure the Disco is nicer with a better donk but I know which i’d rather be 1000kms from a service centre in.

    • Pez

The Disco4 is alot better than this boat anchor! Toyota needs to get with the times…

      • James Cortez

Agree and disagree with you (Dennis and Pez). It is outdated but talking about reliability, don’t even mention a Disco. B… S… Service cost, parts etc.

    • bert

      Only in your dreams buddy!!!!!

  • Igor

….& not one but two dated & inefficient engine options.

  • davie

    photo shop picture?

  • Joe

For 80 grand, I’d want more than just a “leather accented” interior.

  • Richo

Great car, but waaaaay over priced

  • Alex

$80K, hahah yeah right, more like $95K by the time you add lux. car tax, on roads, and if you want floor mats or tinted windows don’t expect to get them for free. Add another $10K if you want diesel (I Know!!) and your looking at near enough to $100K for a truck with Corolla levels of equipment and style (ie not much).

I;d love one but the price! LR D4, no wonder it is selling so well. If it wasn’t for the Farmers these would not have a place here. Ok, maybe most of the buyers are novated lease company directors… no GST, tax deductible and 30% residual make them a bit more affordable.

    • o

exactly the only people who buy them are company directors, way to expensive.

    • Toyota Guru

Alex, you do realise that the RRP (or manufacturer list price) already includes LCT?

On road you’re looking at early 80s for the petrol, early 90s for diesel.

      • o

pathetic considering the US, sahara is 60k and both made in japan. but if I was toyota I would do the same thing, people still buy them

        • david

$70k over in the US, not $60k. And it comes with a 5.7L V8, not the pathetically underpowered 4.7L unit we get. Nor our outdated 5-speed automatic. Even then, nobody in the US buys them. The pricier Lexus LX570 even outsells it, because it’s only $10k more.

          • marko

they are now 6 speed autos not 5

    • nickdl

Well it isn’t really that bad value when you consider the amazing resale on both the LandCruiser and the Prado. Compared to any other car at $90k, these things are cheap.

  • Alex

No, but thank you for clearing that up, trouble is the diesel is still $10K extra which is standard on it’s competitors, so really the cheapest you can get into a VERY basic LC200 with diesel is mid $95K… you should see the stuff that you can buy for that money over in LR, Jeep, VW etc! Amazing these things even sell (and they do of course).

  • BrisVegas

hmm $95k for a diesel drive away. I’ll take a Wrangler AND a Pajero thanks! Or better yet, a LR Disco 4 with extended warranty, spare set of rims with Muds and a bunch of aftermaket gear thrown at it.

Toyota prices based on reputation. The reputation, however, is fading fast these days.

  • bert

All you pencil pushers get real, get out in the bush and see what REAL people drive not your city DISCOVERYS that need to engage 4wd when going over a speed bump!

My brother in law lives in St Qeorge Queensland and has a 200 series V8 turbo diesel sahara done 210,000kms and it is still as good as the day he bought it, where he has taken that a Land Rover wouldn’t even consider and there are no DISCOVERYS out there because no one is that silly in the bush, there is only one choice in the real australian outback and that’s the mighty LANDCRUISER! So site behind your desks and dream about your discovery getting towed by a landcruiser because that’s what will happen if you venture out of the big city.

    • o

I don’t think anyone is disputing its ability but its cost.

    • Rick

Lucky him out of the 8 we had at work 2 needed transmissions replaced and they were using up to 3ltr of oil on average between services and that wasn’t just 1 that was all of them . And to top it off this was all before 40,00km and 6mths .apparently the oil use according to the Toyota technicians is” normal” and” they all do it ” my guess is that people don’t notice this problem cause most people dont open the bonnets of their cars to check these things anymore .

  • MK

Is the oil consumption problem still standard on the diesel?

    • Rick

      Yep

  • MR

Thanks Bert, well said i spent years out in Mt Isa and i did not see to many LRoveres of any discription.I will be getting a cruiser any day.

  • c eo

If you run them in at 75% load you should NOT have no oil problem. The easy way to do that is tow a car trailer full for a day of so.

    Taht shoud do the trick.

Price wise I have work 26 yrs to buy one and next week is the pick date.

  • Rick

Also announced car will receive at no extra cost 5litres of oil and a spare transmission ,however you to get this offer you must tick the free roadside assist box lol

  • Mick

I dont know where some of you uneducated fools get your info from.

The 200 comes with 2 transmissions, the petrol has a 5 speed box and the diesel has a six.

Also, about the oil, I am on my 2nd TTD and niether have had iol issues.

One last thing, try towing a 34kg boat behind your pussy Land Rover 4. Its arse would get pulled out.

    • Mick

      Thats 3400KG.

  • Carla

Just purchased one and Love it!!!! Got 18inch rims on it and a tv installed in the roof.

  • wayne

I have seen the sites complaining about the oil, the tailshaft vibrations etc etc. Try building the most popular car 4WD in the world, selling millions, and not having a few issues and a few whinging nutters with a computer and nuthing better to do. The fact that they sell millions of LC’s and people like me keep paying that bit extra for quality says it all. Buy a Bitsaremissin ( Mitsubishi ) and give it away in five years time, whereas i sell my LC’s on for not far off what i payed for it. You only get what you pay for in life, and if Toyota drops the ball on reliability and service, they wont sell full stop. Last time i checked, they were doing very well.
