Subaru/Toyota FT-86 Testing Video

By Alborz Fallah |

It seems like everyday now we get more and more footage of the “Toybaru” RWD sports car. Folks from Germany captured this video of a development mule being tested at the Nurburgring. It certainly sounds like a boxer under that bonnet:

All the Toyota FT-86 news.

Yawn. The Hyundai Genesis coupe with its 3.8ltr v6 would destroy this. Plus its available now (sadly not in Aust though)…

    • gazza

      And your point is????????????

      • High

sounds like the pointg is this car is behind the 8 ball and long overdue. plus subaru aust said they weren’t going to release it to aust anyway.

    • gazza

And the only thing the HYUNDAI would destroy would be its crap korean made engine ha! ha! ha!

I don’t think that colour scheme will catch on.
    I don’t like it.

      Hahahahahahaha

      Bahhhhhhhhhhhahahhahahahahaha

  • Mr Gaspo

Looks like an elephant sat on a Camry… Oh, it’s the new Toybaru coupe… Yawn.

  • Grammar Nazi

Toyota really did itself a disservice by revealing it years in advance.

It will need a facelift before it’s even gone on sale.

I am looking forward to seeing this (and hopefully sitting inside the Toyota FT 86 concept car) at the Melbourne Motor show early next month.

  • UMWHAT

I get a very strong urge to yawn whenever I see the letters FT-86

Honestly Toyota/Subaru are going to have a lot to live up to considering the amount of hype their is (was?) around this car. It better deliver on all its promises or else it’ll most likely just fade into the ever crowded automotive market. Why cant they just release the damned thing already!

    • Howdog

You might want to get a dictionary at some point.

The sound of tires screeching in that way is the sound of nasty understeer…hope they fix that before final production model comes out.

The latest Wheels Magazine (July 2011) covers this FT 86. It states 150 KW power for the 2 litre engine and 200 KW for the turbo version.

this will be toyota’s re emergence into the sports car market. Combine this fact with the point that the FT 86 has a huge following in Japan, the drifter world, and amongst cash strapped Japanese car fans and i have no doubt in my mind that Toyota is placing no holds on the development of this car. My prediction is that this car will be similar to the original MX5 in it’s concept. Ie an affordable car that is all about the experience of a well balanced chassis…it may be underpowered but it will be about the driving experience not sheer power numbers.

Every so often there is a re emergence of the compact to medium sized sports car market, and Toyota and Subaru are doing this with the release of this car. It would be great to see nissan release the 200sx/silvia again, as this car would have definately been a worthy competitor to the ft-86 II and the Subaru variant.

Subaru will release this car worldwide. I don’t think a company develops a plateform with another brand to only release it in a limited amount of regions. If Subaru Oz don’t release it initially, they will eventually bow to public pressure anyway, it makes smart marketing sense also to create demand, a market and a desire through scarcity or lack of avaiability as this creates interest and hype. All an auto manufacturer has to do then is appease to the demands and they have an instant market which not only will snap up the product but also respect the brand for listening to the consumer.
