Morpheous is dead. LONG LIVE MORPHEOUS!
Omega doesn’t look remotely shabby with these options. As for the SSV, I’ve done such a sterling job minimising my fuel use these last couple of years, I could well turn the table and reward myself with one of these…but I won’t. Not yet.
Where are Viva, Barina and Astra specials? In the Can’t Be Bothered Pile? A good place for them, Astra excepted.

(Report)

Im a nutter ford fan but i don’t think Holden are scared or trying to steal anything, it’s marketing, two companys GM and Ford going toe to toe with sales and the real winner here is the customer, I just hope Ford match or better the deal otherwise i might just scoop up a sale with Holden.

Wow $8000 worth of extras, WTF?? $2000 cost, at best, plus a bloody expensive badge.
And yes promotions like this, timed like these are always attempts to steal the thunder of a competitor. It must be the season, the “deals” being done by Toyota and the mass flooding of advertising.
Oh oh there’s that T word……..
Golf, one word, Runout! Best way to clear component stocks is to package them as “specials”.

(Report)
April 1st, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I’m thinking those features in the Captiva will find themselves in the other models soon.
Since the Captiva has different headlights and tailights in other markets, are these the ones?
I think the Captiva might have a model freshen up with most of them features std.
I just want to see a reversing camera in the commodores
And why has most of the special edition commys used the Berlina grill, it is a nice one but now is looking to get overused.
Just my opinion.
(Report)
April 1st, 2008 at 3:05 pm
G’day atomicssv, the taillights on the Captiva are just clear lenses, the overall design is still the same like the circle in the middle comprising 50% reverse light 50% indicators unlike those in the Maxx which are totally different. Re. the other comments, I agree the 7 inch screen, reverse camera etc will find its way onto the mainstream Captiva with the new model refresh as Holden have been planning it for a while.
(Report)
April 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm

That pretty much means what they have done with the SS-V lights compared to the lights the SS,SV6 and Omega have, this time its on the Captiva though.

Daewoo Captiva………i had the unfortunate experience of driving one last weekend. Well …how the f— could Holden put their badge on those? It was one of the worse cars i have driven. The low quality feel of the interior and the third rate on road dynamics made me appreciate how good the Ford Territory is. I had that uncomfortable feeling that i was going to tip over if I went around corners at anything other than snails pace…………

so in the omega is the whole seat leather or just the bolsters?
(Report)
April 1st, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Exactly right Atomic, Its good to see the Omega has leather seats which definately gives it a lot of class when added to the recent updates o the Omegamodel year 9. To those complaining about special editions raining on Fords parade what do you expect Holden to do on their 60th Anniversary? Do you expect them to do nothing? You cant be serious if thats what you believe. Ford have done the same and I would expect Holden to release a 30th anniversary of the Commodore before the years end as well so get used to it. It makes good marketing sense compared to what Ford have done with the FG Falcon yet at the same price when Ford dont even offer curtain airbags at the price.

Rick harris, I haven’t driven a Captiva. My brother and cyster-in-law recently bought a Captiva Maxx, and that version at least has agreeable styling and finish, inside and out.
I know the tipping-over feeling. It was caused by driving a Daihatsu Terios around a corner at normal speed 8 years ago. It stayed planted, but the terror was real.

Someone in Aurion article mentioned how much better Omega is, the problem with a comment like that is the Omega has a 4 speed tranny and 180kw compared to 4 speed and 200kw in Aurion… and has less features. Some people are like children, looks prity but forget what actually matters!

TP - But Holden also know how to bolt an Eaton [M90]supercharger on to their engine and make it so it actually works instead of causing it to seize resulting in a potentially dangerous fire..
They also have buitl some of the most sought after cars in Oz - I am yet to hear about a 1980 Celica selling for over $80K like a number of HDT Commodores Monaros and Toranas have recently
They also know how to design and build show-stopping attention-grabbing cars like the TT-36; Efijy; [Mambo] Sandman; SS-X; Utester; Monaro 427; The HRT Maloo.

Phil what right end? The end that loses more power to the wheels… the end thats less fuel efficient… the end that offers for all these losses a slight handling advantage, which despite the fact as per Wheels dynamics test placed it nearly last while the FWD Aurion in base form nearly beat the performance orientated XR6 benchmark!

Frosty …u are a twit. The Territory is the best handling SUV on the market…eveyone except you accepts that.
I am tired of hearing that the Aurion has more power than a Falcon. 5 or 10 kw makes hardly any difference especially as power is created so high in the rev range. Why dont I hear Toyota saying that the Aurion has 50 nm LESS torque than a Falcon?? How come the Aurion gets outsold by the “OLD” BF Falcon? The Territory is due for an update but it is still selling strongly in its class which shows you how good it is.
(Report)

Frosty………a 1980 Lada would be a good comparison to any of Holdens …..i mean Daewoo vehicles in terms of quality and refinement …….well done. Do you know why Holden went for importing cheap Korean cars? It was because they over spent on the VE to catch up to the BA\F Falcon in some areas. Thats why the dirveline in a VE is still nowhere near as good as a BF. This Billion dollar car that is only a few years old will be so outdated when FG comes out is is not funny……..oh.wait ….yes it is !!!!!!!

April 1st, 2008 at 7:54 pm
The reason Holden went for Daewoos is because the CEO at the time Dumb-arse Denny Mooney who has since returned to the US [thank god] decided it would be a better option as the exchange rates between Oz and Korea were more favourable than Oz and Europe.
Which; as he saw it would help increase their profit margin
because he believed that those in the small car sector would still be happy with a basic car like the daewoo
[as they have been in the past] not realising the new standard of features etc set by new cars such as VW Golf
How wrong he was. Sales of the Daewoo Barina plateaued and stareted to fall to a point where dealers were slashing prices [inorder to move stock] by so much that they were actually eating into or even wiping out the initial savings
Whereas had he gone for the slightly more expensive [and far more popular] Opels.. sales would have exceeded demand so much that they would be shipping themm in in greater numbers which would have reduced the cost per unit equal to that of the daewoos and the high demand would have enabled them to charge a slght premium for those who really wanted an Opel
Fortunately the new CEO has realised this and is looking at bringing the Opels bac to Oz

Have you even heard the FG is 90% a whole new car? How many times have people posted on here saying the new Falcon won’t be better than the current one because it’s not clean sheet and won’t specify why Ford needs clean sheet architecture in the new FG Falcon?

FG carry over items include:
Seat base frames, ignition bezel, seatbelt anchorages and many more minor componentry, that would only be change for change sake. IRS is pretty much carryover, but why change what is already the class leader anyway?
VE actually had more carry over than what FG does. Clean sheet, yeah right! The sheet was quite heavily cluttered with bits from the existing parts bin.

Guys we will see if this so callled “new” FG will out sell the ve despite record loses in sales remeber the fairlane 1 car sold in a month? Will this car be exported most likly not. geelong plant will shutdown and the sales. Will this car be nominated for world car of the year? How can u rate the fg compared to the ve when it hasn’t even been realeased.Remeber the AU 800 million dollars? it was a waste of money and time atleast the ve has won awards and still is the top seller for 12 years straight. I can gurantee that the FG won’t outsell the VE this year. Series 2 is coming aug or sep with D1 Allotec 227kw and 6.0 litre will have the deactivation system which the pontiac g8 has already, high output stadard most likly lifted too 205kw and DI 225 ON SV6 CALAIS and the 6sp auto.

Who ever said the VE has more carry over then FG Serious i mean serious your ADHD tablets are days overdue.
Please noone would really believe that BS would they?.
And yet i’m still in shock at the other comment on BA’s architecture is superior to VE’s? Again this is something no founded and pure assumption speculations exaggeration plan BS.
It’s not Holdens fault Ford made the Dud that was called “AU” So they in fact went away from tradition to try and leave that bad memory in the past, By building the BA, With gear that wasn’t ready for a good 4-5 years.
Whilst holden played around with there older ageing platform still leading the sales.
Now this new FG is 2 years late, But what it has is over 6 years of Real sale development behind it, VE 2 years, No updates on the VE as yet, Many updates on the full suspension of the BA-FG.
Now all that aside, What did everyone think holden would sit back sit on the hands and let the rest try and get in on them?.. No, What makes holden so great is they are switched on, there marketing department is second to none. And they attack rather then retaliate.
