New South Wales to get new Integrated Transport Authority

By Brett Davis |

Are we seeing the first signs of the new political broom sweeping through the NSW transport authorities? NSW transport minister Gladys Berejiklian and roads minister Duncan Gay have just announced that a new Integrated Transport Authority will be set up to integrate all transport agencies, including the RTA. This not only means a number of jobs could be cut from the system but we could also see major changes in the way the RTA operates.

The new authority will integrate the back end of agencies such as the RTA, State Transit Authority, Rail Corp and Sydney Buses, and revise the focus of these agencies so that they concentrate on customer service and front line duties while the new transport authority will take care of the bigger issues, such as long term planning and policies. Miss Berejiklian announced,

“This means Rail Corp, Sydney Buses, the RTA and other transport agencies will no longer be responsible for major procurement, long term planning and policy – instead they will focus on service delivery.

“This means fewer people in the back office and more on the front line as our state grows and our transport services grow with it.”

“It’s about getting rid of a dysfunctional structure with duplication and poor communication and replacing it with a streamlined agency which plans and delivers for all transport modes.”

Mr Gay also spoke about how changes could affect the RTA at the announcement made earlier today, saying

“You will not see the RTA the same after this process. You will not see roads the same, you will not see transport the same. This is a major integration of what we’re doing.”

The new Integrated Transport Authority will be made up of six departments, all of which will be overseen by Mr Gay and Miss Berejiklian: Customer Experience, Planning and Programs, Transport Services, Transport Projects, Freight and Regional Development and Policy and Regulation.

Changes will take place over the next 12 weeks which will include putting on six new executives to lead each department.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any of the RTA’s changes.

Yippee RTA getting back their pain that they inflicted on road users have no pity on those RTA boofons who thought they were the government well done Barry and thanks

  • Technofreak

    Good news indeed :)

Probably the wrong site to mention it, but I hope this means we end up with an integrated ticket system for public transport – one ticket or pass should allow me to travel anywhere in the Sydney area.

PS the antispam word said Proton, but the audio was audi.

    • Peter

Why did you press the audio button if you were able to read the text?

      • Stal

because it kept bouncing me to the “bad CAPTCHA!” page.

London has this structure and it works.

    TFL.

Sydney is idiotic. When you buy a ticket at circular quay, you need to go to one of different booths for a ticket, depending on wether you want a ferry, bus or train ticket.

    Go Barry :)

Its called Karma RTA! Well done Barry I hope it all goes to plan!

  • Moe

    I can smell 140Km Speed limits coming…… :)

    • Yonny

In your dreams maybe. Can’t see that happening here in Oz anytime in the next, oh, 100 years…

But yeah, stick it to the RTA! That bag of bullying, incompetent buffoons. Hopefully they can be persuaded that it is NOT their job to think up new ways of raising revenue while at the same time making us all drive slower and slower on a poorly maintained road network.

I work frontline for the RTA and previously worked for around 15 years for myself and/ or others. After I joined the RTA I could not believe how grossly incompetent many of the managers were/are. I then found out many are obviously working out of their level of expertise and a good percentage have few qualifications or any demonstrated real world experience, and/ or rose through the ranks of the RTA boys club where nepitism and cronyism is rife, and have become institutionalised. The sooner the axle falls the better IMO.

  • save it for the track

If it’s not done right they will simply be adding another layer of bureaucracy. They are saying that RTA etc. will stay in place but be overssen by this new mob. New letterehaed etc. will need to be created. Wonder how many of those ‘cut’ from RTA etc. will end up in the new organisation. We shall see how this goes…

      save it for the track,
You are correct, The chances of SNAFU will be very high given that the same staff will be used. This idea has been spoken of for many years.
