There are all kinds of ideas. Good ones, bad ones and ones that just should have happened in the first place. That’s because when someone is motivated to realise their idea, the horror it inflicts on the world is just too scary for words.

Yes, someone has chopped the top off a perfectly good Subaru WRX STI, and these images show the result. As you would probably guess, torsional rigidity is not high on this creator’s agenda.

And why would it need to be? It’s only a lowered, all-wheel-drive, rally-spec road monster – it doesn’t need to be stiff…does it?

Apparently you can own it for the bargain-basement price of just US$89,999. It seems that’s the price for self-respect these days…

If you really, really, really want to buy one (and we suggest you don’t) then wince first and click here.

I just threw up, in my mouth, then it just kept coming and turned into projectile vomit. Thankfully it now covers the majority of the screen.

Well how did you type your message if you can’t see the screen?

Panamera you can now show your face in public. You are no longer the most hideous car too grace this planet. All hail the new king. STi convertible! Yuk!

Wow you can actually make an ugly car uglier…

  • Martin

What happens if it rolled over? Is there even any protection for the occupants?

    • http://CarAdvice The Salesman

I think the occupants would want to be thrown as far away as possible.

      • Martin

        Haha, true that, Salesman.

On closer inspection, I do see a rollover bar across the B pillars.

US$90K? How could they possibly come up with a price like that….? The STI standard can be bought for under $US38K! You must have got that wrong CA. You can buy a M3 Convertible for $US68K.

What an awesome idea – just a shame it could have been executed so much better. What is with CA bagging everyone that does something different to a car? OMG I need Karl Peskett’s approval once I have customised my car!?!?
It feels like a kindergarden here sometimes where you must have every ones approval. Grow up FFS. More power to those that do something different.
A Convertable WRX is a brilliant idea. If you google, you will find a Kiwi that stripped a WRX into a quad bike. Very cool and insane power/weight.

  • Wayne Kerr

Subaru’s reinforced pillars have been neutered. Good luck surviving a side on collision in that.

  • jeremy

Oh nice CA – moderate any comments that dare to differ opinion with your writers.
I like this idea. A convertable WRX is excellent. Google for a kiwi that modified a WRX into a quad bike.
