    Beautiful!!!

This car will be a huge winner for Peugeot, especially in diesel guise. The 3rd row of seats won’t sell though, they just eat up too much valuable space.

I love the flexibility of the 2nd row of seats, this will appeal to a lot of families.

  • Bavarian Missile

hahaha……fancy that.I just mention that this should take out the best looking wagon not the Renault Laguna .

Stunning car! Even in diesel No Name……hahaha

  • Captain Mainwaring

It’s French. Nice ride, sweet steering, but something will inevitably go wrong with it.

  • golfschwein

Something inevitably goes wrong with all cars, captain Mainwaring.

  • http://www.caradvice.com.au Anthony

don’t listen to the captain – the diesel is one of the best in the business. If you want to enjoy your drive home from work, test drive the 308!

  • No Name

That one bloody great glass roof. Imagine looking at all the bird shit from underneath.

Cheers BM…yep the diesels better by miles (or should that be Kilometres). Pugs were never good at making sweet sounding petrols.

  • No Name

Antony – I think the captain is referring to the build quality, It has improved lately but I’ve not seen a post 2000 pug at close quarters to be able to comment. Certainly if my 1999 pug 407 is anything to go by its not good, things go wrong on a daily basis…but its still nice to drive at 168,000K’s.

  • Steve

If you’re talking about a 407, they are great cars and didn’t start manufacture until 2004. You’re being a 1999 model would have been a 406. And just like my 405 Mi16, it’ll be a lemon. But brilliant to drive…… even after 280,000kms.

The only 06 series car that was good quality was the 306. They were made well, and very reliable.

But the new 07 series cars are all good. The factory that assembles them got new machines, and they concreted the mud floor they use to use back when they made cheese…. which is where the plastics came from on my 405′s dashboard.

  • Mitch

glass roof is awesome, hope its UV proofed

  • http://www.sigma-galant.com Fabio Caris

Has everyone gone blind? These new Peugeots are absolutly hideous! It makes that SSangYoung van look good!

  • Snowman

Damn, I’m loving these Pugs lately!!! So annoyed that they are out of my price range :(

  • No Name

Steve – well spotted my error. its a 406, gettingcarrried away hinking its a 407. silly me.

  • o

great work with 3rd row of seats this willl sell

  • Rudy Zarszoff

Great looking wagon & so flexible, Diesel, wagon, fuel effecient, 7-seat & not a massize fuel guzzler. About time CAN’T WAIT TO DRIVE AND SEE IN THE FLESH.

  • Graham

In Australia we prefer to sit in the shade. Please have a solid roof as an option if glass has to be standard.

  • Darren

BUT!!! Will the diesel come with an auto??? (unlike the 307 HDi Touring). If it does, where do i sign…

  • http://Toyota Jo

I think the 3rd row WILL sell because it splits – so for 5-6 people in it, there’s still some boot space. It’s hard to find a fuel efficient 7-seater in Australia – and this could well be it.

We looked at Peugeot over 12 months ago – but needed the 3rd row, and were disappointed it wasn’t available in the 307 in Australia – so we opted for another, less fuel efficient, vehicle so we could get more people in.

I agree with Graham – a solid roof would be a great option.

  • Ash

Any update of expected arrival for the 308 Touring. I’ve received conflicting views from Peugeot staff that range from July 08 to “not sure if the 308 Toring is coming to Australia”.

  • Liam

Uh, so ugly. why new Peugeot has to be so big and so fat and so tall (207 and 308 included) and so ugly~? I prefer used BMW Compact to a Peugeot 308. And Peugeot’s almost vertical rear windows on it’s hatchback models suck.

  • Mike

I am not sold on the styling looking at the pics, looks a bit aggressive and kind of lumpy. The glass roof is possibly bad news for Australian conditions, I agree they would want a metal one here.

Hmm, maybe a run out deal on a 307 touring? Are they as bad as the sedans are made out to be?

The full-length glass roof is superb! Even Renault has one. If you haven’t sat under one in a 308 hatch or one of the new 207 Tourings, do so soon. It has an electric blind that keeps out the hot Ozzie sun if need be, but the openness and light and vista is simply glorious. I want one! But I am not impressed that the new new 308 Touring looks a little like a mini-hearse, when the 207 Touring is such a darling in design (along with the gorgeous 407 Touring). Alas, the 207 doesn’t come as an auto or with centre armrests to the front seats (what’s that about???). Whatever happened to the ‘signature’ family trait of the reverse-angle C-pillar? It seems to have gone missing in the new 308 Touring, which is a shame, as it is so striking, and gives the rear window such a lovely curvaceous line. The 308 Touring looks a little drab by comparison, but the extra 100cm in the wheelbase seems to have done wonders for it over the hatch. Can’t wait to see it in the metal!

I loved the idea ot the tourer…buuut..that massive sunroof!
Nice idea but….. If truly made of glass (not polycarbonate) then it’s heavier than steel, and less stiff than steel, and less crashworthy than steel. Result?
Heavier frame (read poorer acceleration, lower fuel efficiency, greater body roll), less stiff torque cell(poorer handling due to more body twist) AND…there goes the 5 star NCAP rating (has anybody ever seen glass absorb energy??).
    Let’s get serious.

  • Golfschwein

Rick, I think Peugeot have already worked that out. It’s not ordinary glass, but you’d have to do some research on it, as I’ve forgotten where to find the reference.

  • woz

I have checked one of these out at the dealer, the drivers seat was cramped and the second row of seats is for midgets and the third row is almost useless. Not a car for someone over 5ft2

  • patterntangle

I sat in one at the motor show – The first thing I noticed was my head was very close to the roof where it meets the top of the windscreen. I’m 6’2″ I think I’m waiting till april 2009 and buying the hyundai i30 deisel wagon that’s coming out. cheaper, better warranty, more fuel efficient. But unlike some it would appear, I like the look of the peugeot.

  • John D

I have driven a 307 diesel touring for 3 years after years of driving V8 calais’. In my opinion the 308 was a much better car with surprising acceleration and performance. I am about to take delivery of a 308 diesel touring this week. Have test driven one and am very impressed with the head room. I am 6’1″ and the 307 and 308 have more headroom than the Calais. I have owned 30 cars in my life and the peugeot 307 was clearly the best. I am sure the 308 will be similar!

  • A.G.

    John D

Totally agree with John D’s comments above with regards to the acceleration (only when the car is already moving) and internal space (according to the dealer its internal dimensions are even bigger than the 407 touring model).

  • Rara

I think the 3rd row is a great idea it makes the car more appling to large families aswell as day careers, beautiful car :) Look forward to hopefully getting one in the next month

  • Mickster

Hey I took out the Peugeot 308 Touring on the weekend, it was a great drive. Very keen to buy one. All my friends say to be careful and Peugeot has one of the worst names in reliability! Is this the case for these new models as well?

  • pugman

I have owned Peugeot’s for a few years now including 406HDI 206GTi 206GTi 180 and a 207HDI. About to trade up to a 308 HDI touring. I’ve never had any problems apart from a sticky electric window that was replaced under warranty in the 406. I wouldn’t keep buying them if I had any problems. Great value for money considering the features….

    • sammo

what is your opinion on the gti 180? thinking about getting a used one as well as a 308 touring, is it a good car?

    • Robert

I am a virgin Peugeot 308 2009 HDI XSE fab leather seats owner. I have always traded in on Commodores and I would have to say this car is the nicest car I have ever driven and the most fuel effiecient. I have had one annoying problem that has not been handled well by the Service Centre near where I live at Sutherland N.S.W. 3 times I have had to take back my car due to a error message ” Depollution System Faulty” turns out through my own research and getting help from a similar thread on aussiefrogs in my case it was caused by a additive put in at the factory that can sludge up the fuel element and lines etc. Only due to my getting the head office involved did this ServiceCentre come round and say they would clean it out but NOT ON WARRANTY but on goodwill.Half the reason you but a new car and enjoy it is being reassured you will get backup service and not having to deal with this dishonest caper. I have never had this “attitude” with any other car. So I’m ontu a new service centre and am hoping from here on in there will be no more teething problems or service centre rubbish.

      Wish me luck?

      Rob

    Gail says:

I would love to buy a 308 Touring but am too afraid to. I have a 407 ST Exec which I really love driving, but it has been one problem after another.
A case of “Once bitten” ????

  • Ooshie Brady

If you brave enough to buy any Peugeot make sure to unload it before warranty expires. These things are programmed to disintegrate. As owner of a 307HDI I see why they feature so prominently in the Dog and Lemon Guide. Buyers beware

  • Beier LI

    Hi,Robert
My 308 Touring XSE has the same problem with you. My car is still been serviced by sutherland service centre while i am writing this message. I wonder how much they charge you each time they deal with the problem “depollution system faulty”?

    Thanks.
