2016 Mini John Cooper Works unveiled in Australia at Mini Garage Sydney launch

The next-generation Mini John Cooper Works has been unveiled for the first time in Australia, ahead of its official launch in July.

The sneak peek was the highlight of a soiree held to celebrate the grand opening of the Mini Garage Sydney in Alexandria.

The state-of-the-art facility provides Mini with a new home base, previously located alongside the BMW Sydney dealership in Rushcutters Bay.

Celebrities, media, customers and staff attended the bash and gathered around the three-door pocket rocket, sipping lychee martinis or champagne and nibbling on canapés, in anticipation of the reveal.

With a grand flourish, the black cover was removed and those in attendance were able to get up close and personal with the JCW.

With a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 0-100km/h time of just 6.1 seconds with the six-speed automatic gearbox, we can’t wait to get behind the wheel.

The new-gen JCW boasts redesigned suspension, Brembo brakes, electromechanical power steering and adaptive dampers.

The JCW has a distinct design that includes a rear spoiler, larger cooling air inlets and different contours around the wheel arches.

It's special inside too, with JCW sports seats and gear lever, as well as a specific central instrument display surround.

Here in Australia we’ll see 18-inch JCW wheels with run-flat tyres, reversing camera and 8.8-inch screen, heads-up display and parking sensors.
