Jaguar F-Type Project 7 arrives in Australia

Jaguar fans have been given cause for excitement today, with news that the unique F-Type Project 7 can now be spotted in Australia.

Spotting a Project 7 will be a rare event, however, and any chance of buying one is already out the window.

Touted by the British car maker as the fastest and most powerful production car it has ever made, the Project 7 has been produced in a limited run of just 250 units, with Jaguar Australia confirming it will deliver just 10 to buyers Down Under - and all are spoken for.

The concept was detailed back in 2013 before the two-seater-production version was revealed prior to the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. That same year, the Jaguar D-Type that serves as inspiration for the Project 7’s design celebrated its 60th anniversary.

As the first performance vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations team, much like the tuning arms of German heavyweights in the BMW M and Mercedes-Benz AMG divisions, the Project 7 has a number of attributes that see it sit atop Jaguar’s performance offerings.

Under the hood is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 pumping out 423kW of power and 700Nm of torque. It also has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 300 km/h. Comparatively, the current-gen F-Type R convertible produces 404kW/680Nm.

Channeling power to the rear wheels is an eight-speed Quickshift transmission via a second-generation electronic active differential.

“Above all – F-Type Project 7 is fast… It uses all the key technologies we’ve proven on F-Type R Coupe to deliver absolute immediacy of response to all driver inputs, yet its focused nature has given us the opportunity to go further still. The result is a driving experience that’s pure and involving in every sense,” Mike Cross, chief engineer for vehicle integrity said.

As standard on the Project 7 will be tuned sports suspension, carbon ceramic matrix (CCM) brakes, torque vectoring by braking, and race-inspired seats with four-point harnesses will be available as an accessory.

With an aerodynamics package featuring carbon-fibre side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler, Jaguar claims the Project 7 betters the downforce of the F-Type convertible by 177 per cent. It also features a distinctive D-Type-inspired rear fairing behind the driver.

Pricing for the Project 7 will start at $339,610 before on-road costs.
