We've long heaped praise on Honda for its 'Magic Seats' design, conceived to make the company's passenger cars as practical as possible. Almost as practical as a small commercial van, in fact.
To properly test the case, we set ourselves the challenge of flipping the rear seats of the little HR-V and packing it to the roof. We've gone one step further, though, bringing along another popular compact SUV – the Subaru XV – for a mini comparison.
But, what to load into these little high-riders? Forget the usual go-to and all-too-conveniently flat-packed IKEA couch. Instead, we've opted for what might be the most cumbersome invention of all time: the drum kit.
Not just one, either. Three full drum kits will help us prove whether the Magic Seats design can make the HR-V a part-time roadie van – and whether others, like the XV, can match up.
