Bentley EXP 100 GT revealed

To celebrate its centenary this year, Bentley has revealed what it believes to be the future of grand touring, the EXP 100 GT, at a global event at its Crewe headquarters.

Its latest concept is sleek and muscular in design, measuring up at 5.8 metres long, nearly 2.4m wide, and weighing 1900kg. The new paint colour, Compass, covers the aluminium and carbon-fibre body.

One of the main highlights is the illuminated matrix grille and the famous Flying B mascot, which lights up when you approach the car. An OLED 3D screen projects even more lighting effects over the taillights, too.

The doors are two metres long, but open outwards and upwards to almost three metres high. Inside is your typical Bentley craftsmanship with 5000-year-old copper-infused Riverwood, 100 per cent organic leather-like textile from winemaking, and British-farmed wool carpets.

In the centre of the cabin is the Bentley Personal Assistant, an illuminated crystal sourced from Cumbria, England. It can cater to each passenger’s needs and also modifies ambient lighting.

The powertrain is electric, with four motors producing 1500Nm and a top speed of 300km/h. It can reach 100km/h in 2.5 seconds.

Charging the EXP 100 GT is done via the Bentley Personal Assistant and takes just 15 minutes to 80 per cent, with a range of 700 kilometres.

The car sits on massive 26-inch active aero wheels and intelligent tyres, which Bentley says focus on passenger well-being and comfort.

“I am proud to say this is the greatest concept car that I or my team have ever delivered,” said Stefan Sielaff, design director at Bentley.

“While a full battery powertrain could be a transitional solution, we believe a fuel-cell hybrid, together with batteries are the perfect mid-term solution for Bentley grand touring,” Mr. Sielaff said.

The CEO of Bentley, Adrian Hallmark, says the “EXP 100 GT will inspire the next generation of creators to join us in our journey into the future and we will engage with this new audience relentlessly to make this technology a reality”.

“We are proud to share our vision with you; a future that takes the best of our last hundred years and all the opportunities of the next and turns them into action,” Mr. Hallmark said.
