Video: 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line walkaround review

Hyundai invites CarAdvice to its Sydney headquarters to get a sneak-peek as its new sports sedan – the upcoming Sonata N-Line.

At last, we've had a chance to get up close and personal with the sporting new 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line – but, alas, the car available us was a pre-production model, so we weren't able to drive it.

What we did do however, was check out the exterior, interior, cabin space and cargo space, to bring you a quick look at what's to come.

The biggest drawcard for this SUV alternative is its engine. Underneath the bonnet you'll find an upgraded 'SmartStream' 2.5-litre turbocharged engine which produces a decent 213kW of power and 422Nm of torque.

Hyundai has incorporated its latest engine technology, Constantly Variable Valve Duration (CVVD), into this engine. This system allows the engine to control the amount of time the engine's valves are open for, and supersedes previous Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and valve-lift technologies.

However, it's not just the engine that's new.

The Sonata N-Line's transmission is Hyundai's latest, in-house eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

This transmission is also set to be used in the upcoming i30 N Performance facelift model. Expect crisp, fast shifts from this wet-clutch automatic transmission.

The exterior is in keeping with the sporty demeanor that the figures suggest. There's twin-exhaust outlets, a complete body kit, a new grille up front as well as large, 19-inch wheels.

Underneath, the chassis has also been fettled, however not by Hyundai Australia.

The Australian version of the Sonata N-Line will use a global ride and handling tune, as this setup exceeded the local engineering team's standards for our market.

There are some hardware changes underneath the Sonata N-Line versus the regular model. In order to maximise the benefit of those variant-specific 245-section tyres, its lower control arms have been lengthened, spring rates revised, and bushings stiffened.

CarAdvice will be bringing you more information on the Hyundai Sonata N-Line sedan as soon as it comes to light.
