Mini JCW Clubman set for Australia, will debut at Paris motor show

Mini is expanding its John Cooper Works performance stable with the 2017 John Cooper Works Clubman set to make its world premiere at the 2016 Paris motor show later this month.

The Mini JCW Clubman has been confirmed for Australia and will feature Mini's most powerful engine yet, as well as All4 all-wheel drive.

Producing 170kW and 350Nm, the JCW Clubman has a 2.0-litre four cylinder Mini TwinPower turbo petrol engine that claims a 0-100km/hr sprint time of 6.3 seconds.

It will also feature Mini's All4 all-wheel drive system which distributes torque as required to the front and rear wheels, and will be available with either the standard six-speed manual transmission, or an optional 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission.

The five-seat, six-door Mini is the British carmaker's interpretation of a shooting brake concept and the JCW version is distinctly different looking compared with its siblings.

It also scores a Brembo sports brake system with red calipers featuring the JCW logo, 18-inch light alloy wheels and the body has been aerodynamically optimised with air curtains in the lower air inlet and air breathers at the rear of the side panels.

The front apron design is model-specific and there are large cooling air inlets where the parking lights and fog lights would normally reside.

Other JCW accents include red side scuttles with the logo, honeycomb grille with red cross member bar at the bottom, also featuring the JCW logo.

The sporty Clubman comes standard with John Cooper Works sports seats with integrated headrests, leather steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and specific interior trim materials.

Above its siblings, it features LED headlamps, Mini driving modes and park distance control with rear sensors.

As you would expect there are numerous customisation options and exclusive John Cooper Works colours and trims like Rebel Green paint, red contrasting roof and mirror caps, and sports stripes in red and black.

Dynamic Damper Control can also be optioned, as can dual-zone air conditioning, panorama glass roof, roof rails, tow pack, Harmon/Kardon sound system and an 8.8-inch touchscreen with navigation (above the standard 6.5-inch display).

Safety features include forward collision warning with city brake, active cruise control, high beam assist and a rear-view camera. An optional head-up display will show additional performance-based information.

Pricing and final local specifications are yet to be confirmed but the Mini JCW Clubman will arrive in Australia by mid-2017.
