Mahindra XUV500 facelift here in Q4, auto coming in 2016

The 2016 Mahindra XUV500 has been revealed in India, sporting updated exterior styling, a refreshed interior, and a host of new technology and convenience features.

The facelifted XUV500 seven-seater gets a revised grille with chrome inserts, new foglights with chrome surrounds, a redesigned bonnet with hydraulic assistance, new 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome window lining and chrome tailgate garnish.

Inside the 2016 Mahindra XUV500 there’s a new dual-tone dashboard, beige leather seats, six-way electric driver’s seat, push-button start, electric sunroof with anti-pinch, aluminium pedals, blue interior lighting and illuminated scuff plates.

New technology features include static bending projector headlamps that swivel to face the direction of travel, logo-projecting puddle lamps, brake energy regeneration, keyless entry, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with a new infotainment system that includes a reverse-view camera with dynamic guiding lines, and a voice messaging alert system.

Under the bonnet sits the same 103kW/330Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which teams with a six-speed manual transmission to send drive to either the front or all four wheels.

Mahindra Australia marketing manager James Halliwell told us the updated XUV500 would arrive in local showrooms in the final quarter of this year.

He also confirmed a long awaited six-speed automatic version is currently being developed and is destined to go on sale locally in the second quarter of 2016.

Mahindra currently offers the XUV500 in a single ‘W8’ specification in Australia, with the front-drive model priced at $29,900 driveaway and the AWD version $32,900 driveaway in six-speed manual form.

The updated global range introduces a new flagship W10 specification, which exclusively offers many of the new equipment highlights such as the sunroof, push-button start, brake energy regeneration, electric driver’s seat, and enhanced reverse-view camera system.

Halliwell said the local division was still finalising its line-up, but admitted he believed there was “room in the market to expand” the XUV500 range to offer the W10 variant in Australia.

He suggested pricing of the updated Mahindra XUV500 range was expected to be similar to current levels, though said the brand would need to leave room for the incoming auto models, which will likely command a circa-$2000 premium over the manual models.
