Hyundai extends warranties to accommodate isolation conditions

Hyundai has launched a new worldwide initiative to extend warranties that would have been set to expire in March and the weeks ahead, allowing owners some breathing room while caught under quarantine and isolation measures during the COVID-19 lockdown. The company is contacting affected owners directly to deliver the good news. The new program, C A R E, covers vehicles with original factory warranties that would have expired in March, through to May 30 2020.

Mercedes-Benz moves to five-year warranty, pressure builds on Audi, BMW, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover to follow

Mercedes-Benz has become the first German luxury car maker to introduce a five-year warranty across its entire range – a move certain to put pressure on rivals such as Audi, BMW, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover to increase their three-year coverage which is now well below the industry average. To date, 14 of the Top 15 car brands have introduced five-, six- or seven-year warranties over the past three years.

Tesla recalls Model X for power steering failure, Australia not included

Tesla has announced it will voluntarily recall 15,000 Model X SUVs over the risk its power steering components will fail. UPDATE (18/02/20): The recall has expanded to include 3183 Model Xs in China, as reported by Reuters. CarAdvice understands no Australian vehicles are included in the recall. The campaign includes vehicles built before mid-October 2016 and is not attributable to Australian models, as local Model X deliveries only began later in 2016.

Volkswagen confirms ID.3 battery warranty

Volkswagen is promising the lithium-ion batteries in its upcoming range of ID. electric vehicles will retain 70 per cent of their capacity for eight years or 160,000km. That puts the German giant in line with the likes of Tesla and Nissan, both of which warranty their battery packs for eight years and 162,000km.

Nissan adds five-year warranty and roadside assist across the range

Anyone who buys a new car from a Top 10 brand will get at least five years factory-backed warranty from today. Nissan – the last of the Top 10 to offer extended coverage – has finally added a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty across the range and included five-year roadside assistance for good measure.
