Volvo unveils 336kW 'triple boost' four-cylinder petrol engine

Volvo has unveiled a 336kW ‘triple boost’ engine prototype based on its new Drive-E powertrain family. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine concept utilises two parallel turbochargers that are fed by an electrically powered turbo-compressor. Rather than being fed to the cylinders, the compressed air from the turbo-compressor is used to spool up the two turbochargers. Fuel is fed by a dual fuel pump working at 250 bar pressure.
