Volkswagen ID. R sets Nürburgring efficiency record

We’ve heard of the fastest lap times on the Nürburgring, but how about the most energy-efficient lap? Volkswagen is bragging it's done just that on the famed circuit with its electric ID. R racing prototype. Back in June race driver Romain Dumas sped through the 20.8-km track in just 6:05.336 minutes, with the ID. R using just 24.7kWh of energy – the most energy-efficient lap of all time on the Nordschleife.

Watch the VW ID. R set a new Nurburgring record

Earlier this week, Romain Dumas shattered the Nurburgring Nordschleife record for electric vehicles with the Volkswagen ID.R. His time (6:05.336) is almost six seconds faster than Stefan Bellof – the long-time lap record holder – could do in a Porsche 956 racer, and around 40 seconds faster than the existing electric record holder, the Nio EP9.

VW revives the Beach Buggy – and it’s electric

Volkswagen has revived the iconic beach buggy, unveiling the modern 'ID. Buggy' sand-blaster on the eve of the 2019 Geneva motor show. While it’s only a concept car for now, VW executives say it is "70 per cent" production ready and only a few years away. The modern Beach Buggy shows how serious Volkswagen is about getting doubters across the line with its vision for an electric future.

Volkswagen mulling sub-€20,000 electric car - report

Volkswagen is reportedly considering building an entry-level electric car priced below the important €20,000 ($32,300) barrier in Europe. According to Reuters, the group's supervisory board will meet on November 16, European time, to discuss the proposal. Tentatively dubbed "MEB Entry", the new model would undercut the ID Neo, a Golf-size vehicle set to be the first production car based on the MEB platform, and due to enter production around 2020.
