Volkswagen to release smaller ID.1 and ID.2 electric models by 2024

Volkswagen is looking to fortify its electric assault with the addition of two smaller models in the ID range – the ID.1 and ID.2, as reported by Car. The models will be built on familiar, scalable MEB electric architecture – the same seen in the larger ID.3 and ID.4, however costs will be brought down by reducing features and driving range. “We can shrink the MEB architecture with less content to get the cost down,” Volkswagen brand chief Ralf Brandstätter told Car.

Volkswagen teases production ID.4 crossover

Another electric Volkswagen made its debut in the metal at Frankfurt... it just happened to be shrouded in fog and covered in stripes. Though this year’s show heralded the debut of the production ID.3 hatchback, the Volkswagen stand was also home to an upcoming electric crossover. Automotive News reports the electric crossover, which appears to be based on the ID Crozz concept, will wear the ID.4 name when it enters production next year.

Volkswagen Amarok and Ford Ranger likely to miss out on electrification

It's no secret Ford and Volkswagen are co-developing commercial vehicles, including the next-generation Amarok and Ranger dual-cab utes. Ford is responsible for the medium-sized pickup truck, while Volkswagen is leading development of small vans. The two companies are also signed up to share Volkswagen's MEB platform. Hot on the heels of the ID.3 reveal in Frankfurt, a Volkswagen board member revealed the entire VW range will be electrified by 2025... not including the Amarok.
