Volkswagen prepping ID.3 hot hatch - report

It's not even been a week since Volkswagen revealed the ID.3 hatchback but the company is already preparing a hotter version, according to a new report from the UK. The new ID.3 is Volkswagen's first mass-produced electric vehicle, with a Golf-sized body and up to 550km of range. The company hasn't revealed a fast version just yet but Jurgen Stackmann, Volkswagen sales boss, has told Autocar the brand is already working out where it's planning to take the 'R' badge.

Volkswagen Amarok and Ford Ranger likely to miss out on electrification

It's no secret Ford and Volkswagen are co-developing commercial vehicles, including the next-generation Amarok and Ranger dual-cab utes. Ford is responsible for the medium-sized pickup truck, while Volkswagen is leading development of small vans. The two companies are also signed up to share Volkswagen's MEB platform. Hot on the heels of the ID.3 reveal in Frankfurt, a Volkswagen board member revealed the entire VW range will be electrified by 2025... not including the Amarok.

The production version of the Volkswagen ID. Crozz has been snapped again this week, with reports suggesting it will bear the ID.4X name when it goes on sale globally late in 2020 or early in 2021. First spotted nearly a month ago, the Volkswagen ID.4X is an all-electric crossover that's roughly between the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace in terms of physical dimensions, based on the German brand's scalable MEB architecture for electric vehicles.
