Volkswagen Amarok: 83 per cent of sales are V6 models

Volkswagen Australia has detailed the sales split of its Amarok ute range this week, with more than 83 per cent of overall sales being high-spec V6 variants. In 2018 the company sold 9290 Amaroks in Australia, with 7739 of those being V6 models – an 83.3 per cent share. That's more than the Amarok's largest market and country of origin, Argentina, where 3931 of the overall 18,201 Amaroks sold last year were V6 versions.

Volkswagen Amarok Core V6 coming under $50k

Volkswagen is preparing a more affordable Amarok Core V6 to slot in below the current Sportline, with a starting price below $50,000 and a manual option. Speaking with media at an event in Sydney today, the company confirmed the new model will be showing up in dealerships from October in eight-speed automatic guise. We'll be the world's first market to get an 'entry level' Amarok V6 model– although Volkswagen wouldn't necessarily want to use that term.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class V6 to tackle Amarok

The all-new Mercedes-Benz X-Class ute has a big talking point – a V6 diesel engine that has more power than anything in the segment. That’s quite a headline act, considering the Volkswagen Amarok V6 launched with a class-leading level of power less than a year ago. But the new 3.0-litre V6 engine in the Mercedes-Benz X-Class Power flagship model will better its German rival for outright grunt.
