Volkswagen Amarok V6: Manual variants coming soon

Volkswagen Australia is looking to further expand its Amarok range in the coming months, headlined by the introduction of manual versions of its V6 variants. Speaking with CarAdvice at the launch of the Caddy Beach camper van in Sydney this week, Ryan Davies, director for Volkswagen Australia's commercial vehicle division, said the local arm is keen to bring the manual-equipped Amarok V6 Down Under.

Volkswagen Amarok V6 demand sees buyers pay over the odds

A buyer of a Volkswagen Amarok V6 paid 107 per cent of the car’s retail price at auction, and it was a company demonstrator with some kays on the clock. The car in question was a Volkswagen Amarok V6 Ultimate, which sold for $73,250 – a solid premium over the $68,990 list price of the new car. Volkswagen Australia commercial vehicles director Carlos Santos said the new V6 ute has brought unprecedented interest.

The Volkswagen Amarok has forged a position in the market as one of the premium utility vehicles, a bit of a foreman’s truck rather than a rough-and-tumble work vehicle. And with competition soon to come in the form of the new Mercedes-Benz utility – which will be based on the same underpinnings as the Nissan Navara and Renault Alaskan through a collaboration between those three makers – there’s an expectation that VW won’t necessarily be the Euro ute of choice anymore.
