Volvo Polestar 2 electric car dearer than Tesla Model 3, due in Australia late 2020

Volvo's second electric car, the Polestar 2, will be dearer than a top-line Tesla Model 3 when it goes on sale in the US mid-year. The Volvo Polestar 2 is due in North American showrooms in a few months, with the first Australian deliveries expected to follow soon after. "Polestar 2 is still intended for Australia and we are in discussion with our colleagues [from] Polestar as to the exact timing," a Volvo Australia spokesperson told CarAdvice.

2020 Toyota GR Yaris pricing announced in UK

The Toyota GR Yaris hot-hatch could cost as much as $60,000 when it goes on sale in Australia at the end of this year – if pricing out of the UK is a guide. Toyota UK pricing for the rally-inspired all-wheel-drive GR Yaris released last week, lists the base-model GR Yaris (the variant due to be sold in Australia) at £29,995 (AU$59,955) including on-road costs.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Motors’s holding company Tata Sons Ltd, told Bloomberg that Jaguar Land Rover isn’t for sale, pushing back on reports the Indian conglomerate was planning on selling the British brands.

JLR posts $707.7m quarterly loss

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has reported further pre-tax losses during the previous quarter, totalling £395 million ($707.7m), compared to the £264m ($473m) during the same period last year. According to a report by Automotive News Europe, in collaboration with Reuters and Bloomberg, the falling profits are the result (in part) of an "ongoing slump in car demand at home, as well as plant shutdowns and delays due to Britain's planned exit from the European Union".

Ford Mustang Bullitt: Production extended, but not for Oz

Ford UK has confirmed it has secured an extended production run of the Mustang Bullitt into 2020, but it looks like Australia will miss out on additional allocation. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the film Bullitt starring Steve McQueen, the latest iteration of the Mustang Bullitt was a sellout success shortly after it launched in 2018 – Australia received an allocation of 700 units which pretty much sold out shortly after landing in the country.
