2020 Tesla Model S update extends certified range to 647 kilometres

The 2020 Tesla Model S Long Range Plus has now been certified with a driving range of 647 kilometres, up from 629 kilometres. The additional eighteen kilometres might not sound like much, but that extra range represents an important milestone for the electric-car maker – translating to more than 400 miles of range. It makes it the first electric vehicle in the US to have achieved that milestone.

Tesla Model S, Model X Long Range Plus get range boost

Tesla has liberated more range from the Model S and Model X, thanks to "many small hardware improvements". Elon Musk took to his preferred medium (Twitter) to reveal the Model S Long Range Plus now has a claimed EPA range of 628km, up from 596km. The Model X SUV has seen its range jump from 528km to 565km – at least, Tesla says it has. The claimed ranges are yet to be certified, so they're just estimates for now.

Tesla vehicles may accelerate unexpectedly, US petition alleges

A US government agency is reviewing a petition that claims Tesla vehicles may unexpectedly accelerate. Reuters reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will review the petition, which cites 127 consumer complaints to the agency involving 123 separate vehicles. These complaints include 110 crashes and 52 injuries. The petition covers the 2012-19 Tesla Model S, 2016-19 Model X and 2018-19 Model 3, asking the NHTSA to issue a recall for a total of 500,000 vehicles.

Tesla Nurburgring record: The real reason Nico Rosberg isn’t driving

Former Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg won’t be behind the wheel of Tesla’s Nurburgring record attempt because he isn’t qualified enough – and it’s likely he wasn’t aware of the rules when he offered his driving services via Twitter. While Rosberg is qualified to race on the circuit, he doesn’t have a licence that makes him eligible to participate in car industry track testing days, which involves a three-day assessment, training and accreditation process.
