Tesla Nurburgring record: The real reason Nico Rosberg isn’t driving

Former Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg won’t be behind the wheel of Tesla’s Nurburgring record attempt because he isn’t qualified enough – and it’s likely he wasn’t aware of the rules when he offered his driving services via Twitter. While Rosberg is qualified to race on the circuit, he doesn’t have a licence that makes him eligible to participate in car industry track testing days, which involves a three-day assessment, training and accreditation process.

Tesla adds Netflix, YouTube to infotainment

Tesla owners will soon be able to stream Netflix and YouTube on their infotainment systems, but video streaming won't be available on the move... for now. As is his wont, Elon Musk announced the news on Twitter, telling his followers the "ability to stream YouTube & Netflix when car is stopped coming to your Tesla soon! Has an amazingly immersive, cinematic feel due to the comfy seats & surround sound audio".

Tesla investigating Model S explosion caught on camera

A video of a Tesla Model S spontaneously catching fire in a Shanghai parking garage has started doing the rounds online, prompting the company to investigate. The video recorded at 8.15pm Sunday night (local time) was, according to Weibo users, shot in a car park in Shanghai. A follow-up video reportedly shows three vehicles destroyed. It's not apparent from the video why the Model S began smoking and caught fire.

Tesla adds Dog Mode, Sentry Mode

Tesla has added two new software features to the Model S, X and 3, thanks to one of its over-the-air updates. The first is Sentry Mode, designed to deter potential thieves. If someone leans on a car with Sentry activated, the car switches into an 'Alert' state and shows a message on the central touchscreen, warning the potential thief the car's cameras are turned on.
