Ssangyong Australia well behind sales targets

Ssangyong is only on track to sell around half its initial target after 12 months of business, after re-launching in Australia with the Musso, Rexton and Tivoli in 2018. Ssangyong Australia boss Tim Smith was shy about sharing numbers, but said figures be officially on the VFACTS industry report at the end of May. That target was 3000 vehicle sales in a 12-month period, but a number closer to 1500 now looks more likely.

SsangYong has debuted and detailed its new Korando at the Geneva motor show, ahead of an Australian launch later this year. The petrol makes 120kW at 5500rpm and 280Nm between 1500 and 4000, while the diesel puts out 100kW at 4000rpm and 324Nm between 1500 and 2500rpm.

2014 Ssangyong Korando priced from $27,990 driveaway

The updated Ssangyong Korando has arrived in Australian showrooms with an auto-only line-up and a $4000-higher starting price. Ssangyong Australia has cut the slow-selling six-speed manual variants from the revised Korando range, leaving just two six-speed automatic variants: the $27,990 driveaway Korando S 4x2 petrol and the $32,990 driveaway Korando SX 4x4 diesel. Each costs $4000 more than the equivalent manual in the old range and $2000 more than the old auto.
