Haval design boss: Doubt Chinese cars at your peril

For a long time, China has been an easy target for automotive enthusiasts. Silly names, copycat designs and laughable crash test results showed how far the Middle Kingdom's automotive industry languished behind its Asian neighbours, not to mention Europe.

Great Wall: High-grade ute variant to offer just 500kg payload

High-spec versions of Great Wall’s new ute will land in Australia with a payload rating almost 500kg less than the established players offer, thanks to its new five-link rear suspension. Launched in Shanghai, the new ute carries bears the hefty weight of expectation from head office. Forget about Ssangyong and LDV, the company wants it to be a “top three ute” in the global market, which would have it rubbing shoulders with the all-conquering Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux on the sales charts.

Great Wall: Next-gen ute's interior revealed

Great Wall has continued to the gradual drip-feed of details about its upcoming replacement for the Steed dual-cab, revealing its upmarket interior. There's quilted leather in there, for crying out loud. The cabin you see here won't feature in the rough and tumble Adventure model revealed last week. Instead, the luxurious-looking finish pictured will be reserved for the 'Urban' model.
