Sergio Marchionne voted 'World Car Person of the Year'

Sergio Marchionne has been voted '2018 World Car Person of the Year' by the World Car Awards jury, after his sudden passing in July last year. The award was voted on this week by more than 80 jurors from 24 countries, and was presented to Marchionne's replacement as Fiat Chrysler chairman and chief executive, Mike Manley. “It is an honour for me to receive this recognition from the World Car Awards’ jury, made posthumously to Sergio Marchionne," Manley said of the award.

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne replaced suddenly due to ill health

After an emergency board meeting Fiat Chrysler (FCA) has appointed Mike Manley, previously head of Jeep and RAM, as its acting CEO effectively immediately. In a statement overnight, the company announced with "profound sorrow that during the course of this week unexpected complications arose while Mr Marchionne was recovering from surgery and that these have worsened significantly in recent hours", and as a result the outspoken CEO "will be unable to return to work".

Maserati Levante was almost a Jeep Grand Cherokee with bling

If it wasn't for a ballsy intervention by FCA boss Sergio Marchionne, Maserati's first SUV would have been based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Levante development had commenced on the Grand Cherokee platform, with over a year of progress before work was halted. Director of Maserati's global markets, Umberto Cini, told CarAdvice that while there were always plans for a Maserati SUV to sit alongside the Ghibli and Quattroporte, it was originally slated to be an FCA Group heavy platform share.

Maserati Alfieri EV could be on sale in 2019

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler (FCA), has said that an electric version of the Maserati Alfieri could be launched in 2019. He told Bloomberg that the electric Alfieri coupe won't be launched before the company's current five-year plan expires in 2018 and won't occur until after he retires as FCA's CEO in 2019. The outspoken chief executive also said that the company is considering an electric city car primarily targeted at European buyers.
