Mercedes-Benz eVito Tourer revealed

Mercedes-Benz Vans has debuted its new eVito Tourer in Berlin, a new electric people mover that will launch with the BerlKönig ride-share service in Germany. Designed for lugging multiple passengers in inner-city areas, the eVito Tourer features a 41kWh battery pack which offers between 156 and 186 kilometres of range, hooked up to an 85kW/295Nm electric motor.

UberAir flying taxis could come to Sydney, Melbourne

Ride-sharing giant Uber could be bringing its high-flying uberAIR service to Sydney and Melbourne, as the company looks for 'launch cities' to trial its latest program. Using electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs), uberAIR shuttles have space for up to four passengers along with "their personal bags and backpacks". The eVTOLs feature four propellers that allow them to take off from the ground vertically, and a single rotor on the tail to propel them forwards.

Uber was hacked in 2016, paid to have breach deleted

Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, has admitted the company suffered a huge privacy breach in 2016, with reports alleging the hackers were paid a ransom to keep it quiet. Khosrowshahi, who wasn't in charge of Uber when the breach occurred, says the two of the employees who led the response to the hack have been fired.

Volvo and Uber team up to work on autonomous vehicles

Overnight Volvo and Uber announced that they will join forces to develop the next generation of autonomous vehicles. According to Volvo, the two companies will "establish a joint project that will develop new base vehicles that will be able to incorporate the latest developments in [autonomous driving] technologies, up to and including fully autonomous driverless cars".

UberX made legal in SA, but Uber may yet steer clear

South Australia will soon join the growing list of states and territories that have made the controversial UberX ride-sharing service legal. In an announcement today, South Australian premier Jay Weatherill said that from July 1, travellers will be able to legally access the 'partner driver' Uber X service. Uber initially launched in South Australia in late 2014, but only with the accredited Uber Black hire-car service.
