Revealed: the damning report on Toyota diesel particulate filters

Legal representatives for car giant Toyota – and the law firm that commenced a Class Action over diesel particular filter faults on approximately 250,000 HiLux, Prado and Fortuner models – went head-to-head today in an online Federal Court hearing. At the centre of the dispute is the excessive white smoke caused by certain Toyota models equipped with the 2.8-litre engine (and some equipped with the smaller, 2.4-litre) when it is doing a “burn off” of the diesel particular filter.

Toyota HiLux DPF faults fixed, company claims, as it urges more customers to come forward

Toyota Australia insists it has solved the diesel particulate filter dramas that saw thousands of HiLux utes blow thick clouds of white smoke in traffic – but it has urged more customers to come forward if their vehicles are still experiencing symptoms. Toyota diesel particulate filter (DPF) faults affect approximately 250,000 examples of the HiLux ute and Prado and Fortuner four-wheel drives equipped with a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine manufactured from 2015 to 2018.

Toyota Prado VX, GXL, Kakadu gain new, no-cost tailgate option

Toyota is about to announce the addition of a split tailgate with top-hinged glass as a no-cost option for the updated Landcruiser Prado, CarAdvice can exclusively reveal. Unlike previous Prado generations where the flat, split tailgate has been limited to top-spec Altitude models, the model-year update will make it available on the GXL, VX and Kakadu. The spare wheel is relocated under the car, the secondary fuel tank removed and a top-hinged rear window added.

2016 Toyota Prado revealed in compliance images

Images of the 2016 Toyota Prado have appeared on a government compliance website along with details about the SUV's new and revised engines, and a new gearbox option. While the updated LandCruiser Prado's design remains generally unchanged from what we can tell, the range is expected to receive specification upgrades in the form of satellite navigation for the GXL and extra kit across the range. As reported by CarAdvice last week, the brunt of the changes sit beneath the bonnet.
