2020 Holden Astra previewed by Opel/Vauxhall facelift

With a new Ford Focus already on sale and the Volkswagen Golf Mark VIII around the corner, the PSA Group has given its Opel and Vauxhall Astra range a freshen up. Externally the differences are slight, with a new grille design incorporating shutters, and redesigned front and rear bumpers being the most obvious changes.

2019 Holden Astra drops mid-spec manuals

Holden has quietly introduced some running changes for the MY19 Astra hatchback, headlined by the retirement of certain manual variants and a reduction in colour options. The same model family remains: R, R+, RS and RS-V. However, both the R+ and RS have had their manual options dropped for 2019. Speaking with CarAdvice, Holden's manager for product and public relations, Daniel Cotterill, said keeping the entry-level and top-spec manuals is based on different reasons.

Holden expands Takata recall, Opel models affected

Holden has added the 2012-17 Holden/Opel Astra, 2014-17 Holden Cascada and 2013 Opel Zafira to the ever-expanding Takata airbag recall. As with all Takata recalls, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can make the airbag inflator propellant degrade.

Next Opel Astra OPC may downsize to a 1.6-litre turbo

The Opel Astra OPC and Holden Astra VXR twins look set to downsize to a 1.6-litre turbo engine when the next-generation hot hatches emerge later this decade. New Astra chief engineer Marc Schmidt confirmed with Australian journalists last week that a 1.6-litre engine was “at this point the ceiling on the [sports car] assignment”, seemingly foretelling a decrease in capacity from the current model’s 2.0-litre capacity.

Holden Astra hatch confirmed for late-2016 launch: Early end for Cruze hatch production?

The Holden Astra hatch will once again go head to head with the Toyota Corolla in Australia’s small car sales battle when the company launches the all-new model on our shores next year. Holden announced the return of the five-door Astra hatchback during the car’s unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show today, revealing the new model is currently on track to reach local showrooms toward the end of 2016.
