NHTSA called for Tesla to drop 'misleading' safety claims

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned Tesla about making 'misleading' safety claims about its cars. UPDATE, 09/08/2019: Tesla has issued a statement regarding the NHTSA's cease-and-desist. It's been added to our story. Tesla claimed the Model 3's crash test results gave it the "lowest probability of injury of any vehicle ever tested by the NHTSA" after the body, which is responsible for enforcing safety standards in the USA, tested the car in October.

Bugatti Chiron recalled for airbag fix

The Bugatti Chiron has been recalled for faulty side airbag inflators, and you'll be interested to know how the marque plans to conduct the repairs. According to the NHTSA's Safety Recall Report, just two examples of the quad-turbo hypercar have been recalled, both based on the US, due to improperly-installed heat shields for the side airbags.

Push-button start contributing to carbon monoxide poisoning - report

Keyless and push-button start systems have contributed to upwards of two dozen carbon monoxide poisoning deaths in the United States, according to an in-depth report published in The New York Times. According to the Times report, more than "two dozen people" were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning between 2006 and 2018 after leaving their keyless vehicle running in a garage. A further 45 were injured during the same period, although the report says the real figures "could be higher".

Jeep recalling almost 35,000 cars in Australia

Fiat Chrysler Australia will recall almost 35,000 Jeep SUVs after two separate recalls were made public this week. Approximately 28,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Cherokee models will be recalled locally in response to the Chrysler Group’s announcement that it will voluntarily recall 1.5 million Jeeps in the US as part of an agreement with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
