2021 Mitsubishi Outlander spied

Mitsubishi's next-generation Outlander SUV has been spied for the first time, wearing what appears to be a larger body and a face inspired by the Engelberg Tourer concept. The current, third-generation Outlander has been on sale since 2013, although it received a major facelift in 2015 and a smattering of smaller styling tweaks for the 2019 model year. Although unconfirmed, the new Outlander could be in local showrooms within two years.

Mitsubishi Outlander concept unveiled

Mitsubishi has given the clearest indication yet of what its next generation Outlander will look like. What the photos don’t show, though, is that this is the first Mitsubishi based on the new Alliance platform shared with joint venture partners Nissan and Renault. The concept is a plug-in hybrid that uses two electric motors, one each for the front and rear axles.

2013-2017 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV recalled for engine fix

The pre-facelift Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been recalled this week, with 1654 units potentially affected by an engine fault which could shut off the petrol motor inadvertently. Mitsubishi reports that improper engine software, electric vehicle (EV) software and spark plug specification are the cause of the issue, which could turn off the plug-in hybrid system's petrol engine unexpectedly during use, limiting the vehicle to electric power only.
