The hotly anticipated Mercedes-AMG R50 hypercar will be clearly distinguishable as a product of the three-pointed star brand, the company’s chief design officer has revealed.
Speaking with CarAdvice at CES 2017, Gorden Wagener – the chief penman for the company who signs off on every new model launched under the Mercedes badge – said the new hypercar was a fulfilling project to lead.
“The car is very clean and pure, but also very extreme,” he said.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG hypercar isn't scheduled for release until late in 2018, but that hasn't stopped cashed-up buyers placing orders for almost the entire production run, according to a new report.
In a new article with industry journal Automotive News, Mercedes-AMG chairman, Tobias Moers, said the entire production run is almost sold out two years ahead of release.
"It's close to our production capacity," he said. "It's an amazing car. There's nothing else on the market."

The Mercedes-AMG Formula One team is working on a new hypercar to take on the upcoming Aston Martin AM-RB 001, according to a new report.
In an article by the UK’s Evo magazine, a source “within the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team” has confirmed that the hypercar is in its final stages of design before the company commences development.
The new road-going race car is expected to be revealed some time next year as part of AMG’s 50th anniversary.
