The hotly anticipated Mercedes-AMG R50 hypercar will be clearly distinguishable as a product of the three-pointed star brand, the company’s chief design officer has revealed. Speaking with CarAdvice at CES 2017, Gorden Wagener – the chief penman for the company who signs off on every new model launched under the Mercedes badge – said the new hypercar was a fulfilling project to lead. “The car is very clean and pure, but also very extreme,” he said.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG hypercar isn't scheduled for release until late in 2018, but that hasn't stopped cashed-up buyers placing orders for almost the entire production run, according to a new report. In a new article with industry journal Automotive News, Mercedes-AMG chairman, Tobias Moers, said the entire production run is almost sold out two years ahead of release. "It's close to our production capacity," he said. "It's an amazing car. There's nothing else on the market."
