Mercedes-AMG PHEVs are coming, and coming very soon

Mercedes-AMG will launch an EQ-branded battery-electric GT 4-Door by the end of 2020 with supercar performance, delivering on the promise implied by the concept version in March 2017. If you recall, the Mercedes-AMG GT concept that previewed the current six- and eight-cylinder production 4-Door models paired the familiar 4.0-litre biturbo engine with an electric motor driving the rear axle directly and with individual-wheel-variability.

Lewis Hamilton puts the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door through its paces - video

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has a clumsy name, but it promises to bring range-topping AMG performance to a wider audience, with four seats and a 470kW/900Nm twin-turbo V8 engine. To put its family credentials to the test, Mercedes-AMG has turned to F1 champion Lewis Hamilton and a carload of stuffed toys. We're not going to spoil the plot, but suffice to say the 4-Door acquits itself well when side-by-side with an AMG GT R and their GT3-racing cousins.
