2019 Mazda CX-5 to get 2.5T in the US - report

The CX-5 SUV could be the next member of the Mazda line-up to get the brand's 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, if new documents out of the US are anything to go by. Autoevolution published a document (below) made to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) – the state's regulatory body for emissions and air quality – which apparently indicates the CX-5 will offer the 2.5-litre turbo as part of a 2019 model-year update.

Mazda: turbochargers a 'costly' solution to efficiency

Mazda says its future range of Skyactiv engines are better suited to the company’s needs as naturally aspirated variants, rather than seeking turbochargers for efficiency and additional power output. Mazda has claimed that its next-generation of Skyactiv engines will deliver a further 30 percent fuel efficiency gain without the need for turbocharging as the company seeks to find the ‘perfect’ and leanest naturally aspirated engine.

Mazda to increase Skyactiv engine production by 25 per cent

Mazda will increase production of its Skyactiv engines next year following greater-than-expected demand for the new-generation powerplants. The Japanese manufacturer will increase production by 25 per cent, from 800,000 units to one million per year, at its plant in Hiroshima. As a part of the expansion Mazda will make the facility more flexible, altering assembly lines currently used to produce its MZR engines. This will go some way towards meeting the increased Skyactiv production target.

2013 Mazda6: Popular hatch faces axe

The Mazda6 hatch, the best-selling variant of the medium car in Australia, faces the axe for the next-generation model expected in 2013. Mazda Australia says it is still in discussions with Japan about the full line-up of the new Mazda6, though the chief designer of the Takeri concept (pictured below) that previews the car revealed at the 2011 Tokyo motor show says that only sedan and wagon versions of the mid-sizer have been created.
