2020 Mazda CX-8 pricing and specs

Mazda has performed a minor about-face, adding two versions of its CX-8 seven-seat SUV powered by a petrol engine option - for the first time since the nameplate arrived in June 2018. The company has also greatly expanded the range from three specification variants, to eight. Where it once previously offered base Sport and luxury Asaki grades, it now also offers Touring and GT spec levels between these bookends to make the spec ‘walk’ more palatable.

Mazda CX-8: Petrol off the menu for Australia

With the CX-9 and CX-5 now available with a turbocharged petrol engine, Mazda has ruled out bringing a petrol version of its segment-straddling CX-8 to Australia. With power from the same 2.5-litre turbo and naturally-aspirated engines offered in the CX-5, the non-diesel CX-8 was revealed as part of a mid-life refresh in Japan. At the time, Mazda Australia said there were "no local announcements" on the vehicle.

2018 Mazda CX-8 on sale from July

The new 2018 Mazda CX-8 will go on sale in Australia from July 1, slotting below the slightly larger CX-9 in the company's local line-up, the company has confirmed with CarAdvice. While final pricing and specification details are yet to be confirmed, we do know the CX-8 will offer the 140kW/450Nm 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel that recently joined the CX-5 range – meaning you can finally get a seven-seat Mazda SUV with a diesel engine.
