Who's making utes for whom?

Car companies have been sharing development costs for years, so it’s hardly shocking to see them doing the same with pickups/utes. For one, we’ve just seen Ford and Volkswagen announce the co-development of the next-generation Ranger and Amarok, due for market launch in 2022. Isuzu and Mazda are also sharing costs on the next D-Max/BT-50.

2016-17 Ford Ranger recalled – UPDATE

UPDATE, 21/6/18: Ford Australia has expanded this recall, and has announced parts are now available to rectify the fault. See article for more details. Ford Australia has issued a recall for 73,000 Ranger utes, over concerns a buildup of debris on the vehicle's underbody could pose a fire risk. The Blue Oval says affected units can accumulate vegetation on the underside of the vehicle when driven over long grass.

Mazda claims an AEB 'safety revolution'

Mazda Australia claims to have completed its "standard safety revolution" after adding autonomous emergency braking (AEB) as standard to its CX-3 small crossover last week. The company has progressively made its Smart City Brake Support - Forward (SCBS-F) system standard on its core passenger and SUV range, putting it at the pointy end of the market. As of now, the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 6, CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9 all have AEB standard.
