Ford to build ‘Ion Park’ battery facility in Michigan – report

US car giant Ford has confirmed plans to build its own battery development facility – known as the ‘Ford Ion Park’ – in Michigan, US. According to the Detroit News, the 200,000-square-foot site (18,580 square metres) is expected to cost upwards of US$185 million (AU$245 million) to build, and, when complete, it will employ “approximately” 150 people.

Porsche to open assembly plant in Malaysia – report

Porsche AG appears set to open a manufacturing facility in Malaysia, according to one of the country's leading local news outlets, The Edge Weekly. If accurate, this would be the brand’s first plant outside of Germany. It isn't the first time Porsche vehicles have been built overseas, however – the current Cayenne SUV is built at parent Volkswagen's factory in Slovakia.

Car parts supplier Bosch to assist production of 4000 ventilators in Australia for COVD-19

Bosch Australia – a subsidiary of the German automotive parts manufacturer and supplier – will be responsible for testing 4000 ventilators assembled locally and sent to healthcare providers across the nation to treat COVID-19 patients. Australian-made ventilators will be produced by a consortium of local manufacturers, then tested by Bosch Australia at their Clayton site in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, not far from the Holden Special Vehicles production facility.

Tesla allowed to clear land, German 'gigafactory' still not approved

American electric vehicle maker Tesla has received approval from German courts to continue land preparations for a ‘gigafactory’ near Berlin – however the future of the plant is still not confirmed. As reported by Reuters, the approval comes after German courts issued an injunction against Tesla’s site preparations for the plant earlier in the week. The German court stated its ruling was final.

Britain's car industry has warned new UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, about the risk of a 'hard' exit from the European Union. A letter from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to Boris Johnson said a "no-deal Brexit presents an existential threat" to the British car industry.
