Lotus to revive Esprit spirit with hybrid V6 power - report

English sports car – and more recently, electric hypercar – maker Lotus is looking to build a new hybridised V6 model in the spirit of its classic Esprit, according to AutoCar. Expected to debut in the first half of 2021, the unnamed model will be built on the same extruded aluminium chassis underpinning as the current Evora, and will be the last Lotus to use the manufacturing technique before all models move to a brand new rivet-bonded chassis.

Elon Musk to transform 007's Lotus Esprit into a real submarine car

Tesla CEO Elon Musk bought the Lotus Esprit prop from the 1977 James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me and now plans to transform it into a real submersible car powered by a Tesla electric powerplant. Musk secured the car with a winning bid of $1,022,962 at an auction in London last month. The eccentric CEO, who is also the chief executive of rocket manufacturer SpaceX, claimed he always wanted to make the car do what it did in the movie.

Lotus Esprit ready to roll, still waiting on production green light

Development of the new-generation Lotus Esprit is all but complete, but ongoing management dramas within the Proton-owned company threaten to keep the supercar from ever reaching production. UK publication Autocar reports the V8-powered flagship Lotus Esprit coupe only requires "minor tweaking" before it is ready for the assembly line, although officials at Lotus' Malaysian parent company, DRB-Hicom, are yet to sign-off on the car's production.

2013 Lotus Esprit Unveiled

If you've been waiting for a Lotus Esprit since the model went out of production in 2004, then your wait is over. The all-new Lotus Esprit has just been announced at the Paris motorshow and is expected to go on sale in 2013. The British car company calls it the ultimate Lotus and it may be right, given the Esprit is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 with 456kW and 720 Nm of torque. It will do the 0-100km/h run in just 3.5 seconds and go to a top-speed of 330 km/h.

Lotus Esprit revival gets a green light - report

After what seems like years of conjecture from the brand, Lotus has, according to UK publication Autocar, given the green light to a replacement for its famed Esprit model. The Esprit went out of production in 2004 but could be back on the roads by as early as next decade. Set to be positioned above the Evora in terms of price, the Esprit has been described by at least one Lotus insider as an “essential brand image builder” and a “high-status purchase”.
