VFACTS: August 2019 new car sales detailed

Australians purchased on average 358 fewer new cars every selling day throughout the August just gone, compared to the same month in 2018. VFACTS data compiled by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and released today showed August 2019 was the 17th successive month where sales fell relative to the corresponding month in the previous year.

2019 Ford Ranger Sport: Special edition brings more tech

Ford has revealed the limited-run Ranger Sport, designed to sit between the XLS and XLT in the hotly-contested 4x4 dual-cab ute segment. Although it trails well behind the all-conquering Toyota HiLux in two-wheel drive sales, the Ford Ranger is just 452 sales behind on the more profitable four-wheel drive ute sales charts.

2016-18 Ford Ranger recalled

Ford has recalled a huge batch of 2016-18 Rangers, over concerns about about their flexible front brake hoses. According to the company, come vehicles might be fitted with a flexible brake hose prone to failure when it's twisted during installation. If twisted, the inner and outer hose layers could wear over bumps requiring a lot of suspension travel. A warning light illuminates in the instrument binnacle when the problem occurs.

VFACTS: January 2019 sales wrap

Claimed new vehicle sales continued their downward trajectory in Australia over January, with the market down 7.4 per cent over the same month in 2018, to 88,851 units. This follows the trend from last year, when new vehicle sales went backwards for the first time in a few years after a strong start, and in which 10 of 12 months showed negative growth.

Australian interest in hybrid, EV growing fast: Roy Morgan

More than half of Australia’s drivers are now “seriously considering” buying a hybrid car instead of a purely petrol-powered option, according to a Roy Morgan survey of more than 50,000 people. The organisation’s market-specific Automotive Currency Report published findings based on in-person interviews with more than 50,000 Australians at home, up to September 2018, including 37,000 current drivers and the rest aged over 14 and intending to be drivers within four years.
