Maserati invests $1.29 billion in hybrid and EV program
Maserati has taken the next step in its commitment to hybrid and electric vehicles (EV) with an investment of €800 million ($1.29 billion) in one of its key production hubs.
After announcing plans for its first hybrid and EV models, the Ghibli, GranTurismo, and GranCabrio, Maserati has invested in upgrades to its Mirafiori production line to suit.
Jaguar stops production of its electric car as it runs out of batteries
The Jaguar I-Pace electric car has run out of batteries. Jaguar will pause production for one week from next Monday because of a shortage of lithium-ion batteries, The Times newspaper in the UK reported overnight.
Although Jaguar is a British brand, the I-Pace electric car is made in a factory in Graz, Austria, while the batteries are supplied by South Korean company LG from its factory in Poland.
Electric vehicle start-up Rivian and retail giant Amazon have revealed additional information and clay models of their collaboration, an electric van.
Last year, Amazon revealed it was investing US$700 million (A$1.03 billion) in the American EV manufacturer and ordering 100,000 electric delivery vehicles.
Amazon plans to have 10,000 vehicles on the road and in service by 2022, with the other 90,000 operational by 2030.
Volkswagen is developing robots that can find and charge electric vehicles in need of a range boost.
The idea behind the robots is simple: vehicles low on charge can park in a regular multi-storey carpark, and wirelessly communicate with the charging infrastructure.
An autonomous robot will then deliver a small charger to the vehicle, wirelessly open the car's charge port, and connect up the charger.
Now the petrol-powered GLA has officially been revealed, Mercedes-Benz has released a camouflaged all-electric EQA SUV mule into the wilds of snowy Europe.
Built on the same MFA II underpinnings as the A-Class, B-Class, GLA, GLB, and CLA variants, the EQA is expected to offer an electric range nudging 500km when it lobs in 2021.
Externally, the EQA looks nearly identical to the GLA released earlier this week.
