2021 Hummer EV to get 'crab mode' four-wheel steering

The 2021 Hummer EV will be capable of driving diagonally thanks to a 'crab mode' four-wheel steering system, GMC has revealed. In a promotional video posted to YouTube, the General Motors truck division demonstrated the technology alongside a less-than-cryptic slogan “Sometimes the biggest leaps forward are actually diagonal”. However, the clip indicates the feature will be an optional extra, rather than fitted as standard.

Tesla's Cybertruck could change colour with extreme temperatures

The highly anticipated and controversially-styled Tesla Cybertruck may be able to change colour when heat is applied to the body. According to a story published on electric-car website Electrek, the technique known as 'tempering' could potentially allow owners to choose from a limited range of colours, thanks to the body of the Cybertruck being made of stainless steel. When heat is applied to some types of steel, the colour will change through a chemical reaction, the report says.

Electric start-up Rivian gets $US2.5 billion funding boost

US electric-car start-up Rivian has finalised another investment round of $US2.5 billion ($AU3.6 billion). The company has raised nearly $US5 billion ($AU7.2 billion) in 2020, adding to the $US2.85 billion ($AU4.1 billion) invested into Rivian in 2019. Counted among its investors are Ford, Amazon, and an investment firm owned by billionaire George Soros, a US stock trader and financier.
