Suzuki to stop selling diesels in India due to new rules

Maruti Suzuki, India's dominant car maker, will eliminate diesel engines from its passenger car range starting from April next year. Maruti Suzuki chairman's R C Bhargava confirmed the move with Quartz. He did leave a little bit of wiggle room, though, stating “if we find there is a market for diesel cars [after the new emissions rules take effect] we will develop it in a reasonable amount of time".

2018 Subaru Outback Diesel recalled

Subaru has recalled the 2018 Outback Diesel, over concerns some vehicles might have been fitted with an incorrect oil pipe. According to the company, affected vehicles are fitted with an oil pipe that's too small on the inside. That could leave the turbo's turbine bearing short of oil, which in turn could make it wear prematurely or seize and fracture. If the turbine blade fractures, the fragments might be ingested by the engine, which could make the engine stop and fail to restart.

Fiat Chrysler to settle US diesel emissions cases for $1.1 billion

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will pay out roughly US$800 million ($1.1 billion) in fines, fixes and compensation to settle claims some of its diesel engines cheated their way past emissions regulations. The company had been accused of using an emissions-testing defeat device, like the one used employed by the Volkswagen Group in its Dieselgate engines, which could detect when a car was undergoing bench-testing and alter its operation to emit a legal quantity of pollutants.

Rupert Stadler released from custody

Rupert Stadler, ex-chief executive of Audi, has been released from custody, according to a new report from Reuters. The news outlet quotes a Munich court, which confirmed the executive was released on Tuesday. He was arrested in June, after prosecutors raised concerns he was trying to tamper with the ongoing Dieselgate investigation. An appeal for freedom was rejected in August, as the "danger of obstructing justice" still loomed large.
