Jeep, Suzuki diesels found to exceed EU emissions limits

Diesel engines used by Jeep Grand Cherokee and Suzuki Vitara models sold in the EU used "prohibited emissions strategies" to emit more oxides of nitrogen (NOx) during regular road driving than during emissions testing, according to the RDW, the road authority for the Netherlands. In a statement to Reuters, the RDW said Jeep has developed a software patch to the authority's satisfaction. The off-road brand will be ordered to recall affected Grand Cherokee models and apply the fix.

Ford 'stop sale' on 2.0-litre turbo diesel continues, no word when it will be lifted

Ford Australia does not know how long it will take to fix a problem with more than 2000 vehicles equipped with single-turbo and twin-turbo versions of its 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine – including some versions of the Ranger ute (pictured). A fault with the high-pressure fuel injectors on the EcoBlue family of turbo diesel engines has forced Ford to stop delivery of 2115 cars across the Ranger dual-cab ute, seven-seat Everest SUV, large Endura SUV, Transit and Transit Custom van line-ups.

BMW X5, X7 M50d temporarily removed from Australian line-up

BMW Australia has been forced to temporarily stop accepting orders for the quad-turbo X5 and X7 M50d, robbing it of a diesel flagship for its big SUVs. At the moment, the M50d accounts for 16 per cent of X5 sales and 12 per cent of X7 sales. Both X5 and X7 M50d models are powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel engine with four turbochargers, putting out 294kW and 760Nm.

'The shift to electrification is over-hyped' - BMW

Electrification is high on the agenda, but BMW says internal-combustion engines will survive another three decades before being entirely usurped by electric or hydrogen vehicles. "The shift to electrification is over-hyped. Battery-electric vehicles cost more in terms of raw materials for batteries. This will continue and could eventually worsen as demand for these raw materials increases," said Klaus Frolich, chief BMW technical officer.
