Daihatsu unveils four concepts for 2019 Tokyo motor show

Small car specialist Daihatsu will have four concept cars on its stand at the 2019 Tokyo motor show later this month. The Waku Waku is a kei-class crossover with plastic wheel arches, silver-colour plastic bumpers, and hardy orange plastic seat backs and boot floor. There's also a storage area in the roof accessed via a pop-up lid.

Renault Nissan Mitsubishi claims 2017 sales crown – here are the numbers

The Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance has claimed the global passenger vehicle sales crown for 2017 ahead of the Volkswagen Group and Toyota Motor Company. According to figures released by the various companies, the French-Japanese alliance has successfully broken the two-way lockout of the sales charts in recent times. With the addition of Mitsubishi Motors to the lineup, via Nissan's controlling 34 per cent stake, the fresh alliance gained around a million and leapt into top spot.

Volkswagen tops 2016 global sales chart despite Dieselgate scandal

Volkswagen finished 2016 as the world's number one automotive company, edging out Toyota, which has just reported its global sales numbers for last year. Both companies are expected to finish well ahead of General Motors, which should take out the final podium spot. Earlier this month, the Volkswagen Group announced that it had sold a total 10,312,400 cars and trucks throughout the 2016 calendar year, a 3.8 per cent increase from 2015's figure of 9,930,500.

Daihatsu Copen revealed: Second generation model features replaceable body panels

The second generation Daihatsu Copen convertible kei car has been unveiled at a ceremony in Japan. Looking not too dissimilar to last year's Kopen concept, the production vehicle is spelt with a 'C' like its predecessor. The Copen's two-piece folding hardtop can be raised or lowered in 20 seconds via a switch in the centre tunnel. With the roof up, Daihatsu claims the boot can accommodate a golf bag up to 23cm in diameter.
