2020 BMW 530e update revealed

The updated BMW 530e plug-in hybrid sedan has been unveiled in Europe. According to BMW, the 530e benefits from "the latest advances in the field of battery cell technology", allowing the company to fit a 12kWh battery in same physical space, primarily under the rear seats, as the outgoing car's 9.2kWh unit.

You could argue BMW invented the fast sedan class with the M5, but recent developments in the industry have left its internal-combustion offerings looking a bit slow. After all, the Tesla Model S will hit 100km/h in just 2.4 seconds with Ludicrous Mode, making the latest M5 Competition's sprint time (3.3 seconds) look a bit leisurely.

BMW 530d becomes NSW Highway Patrol vehicle

The New South Wales Police Force has confirmed it will use the BMW 530d as Highway Patrol cars, becoming the second Australian authority to use the German sedan. "We are honoured by our association with the New South Wales Police Force and delighted that our officers will be driving BMW’s safe, efficient and dynamically superior vehicles," said Marc Werner, BMW Group Australia's CEO.
