2014 Mitsubishi Outlander LS (4×2) Review
We purchased the MY14.5 Outlander LS (4x2 - 2.0l) in August this year after upgrading from a MY12 Cruze SRiV. We were after a larger vehicle, but also seeking a vehicle that was far more reliable.
- Build quality, Fuel consumption, Easy to drive & park, Satellite Navigation & Bluetooth Audio, Very quiet on the road
- It needs the projector bi-xexon headlights to look the part!, It needs the LED tail lights to look the part!
The updated Outlander and its facelift is somewhat much to most people's taste (I would think) than the previous model, or the original of this 3rd generation. In addition, the LS model is fitted with partial leather seats, satellite navigation, LED indicators on the mirrors, privacy glass (though we had the front glass tinted anyway), the CVT transmission and a few other items like floor mats and a bonnet 'Outlander' emblem were thrown in.
After owning a Cruze the last 3 years (6spd auto and an awful shifter at that), the CVT is a dream to drive and very smooth indeed. The 4x2 model is as light in weight as say a Cruze, it's very easy to drive (a little larger but didn't take much to get used to), easy to park with the standard rear sensors, camera and electric steering (front sensors added on).
The instrument cluster is clear to read and to understand, the radio, bluetooth audio and sat nav are simple to operate as well as the cruise control. The engine's fuel consumption is spot on, averaging 7.0l per 100km to and from work (upper north shore sydney to the city everyday) and on a trip it has dropped to 5.4l per 100km.
Mind you however, this is using 95 RON rather than standard 91 Unleaded (I don't bother with E10)... At almost 7000km's on the clock, the engine is running alot quieter too and seems to drive alot less sluggish (but it was like this throughout the running-in period)... Mitsubishi service has been A+, and the only issue with the car was that the front left passenger leather armrest slightly collapsed but replaced under warranty.
The ride, especially around Sydney is very quiet, most road nice is silenced and this is a nice change from a low riding car like the Cruze SRiV. I actually didn't opt to purchase the Aspire model, for reasons such as not needing full leather seats, a sun roof, push button entry and start, heater front seats - this was almost a $10k jump in price from the LS, but is a 4x4 with 7 seats.
Mitsubishi should include an Aspire model with only 5 seats, this might attract additional buyers but who knows... I do like the LED tail lights and projector bi-xenon headlights fitted to the petrol/diesel aspire and PHEV models, but these should be fitted to all models - just an idea ;) - it looks very smart.
Overall, a happy purchase, a very well built & quality vehicle and though it comes with a 5 year 130k warranty, I hope I do not have to return the Outlander to many times in the next 5 years unlike the Cruze during its 3 year warranty... It was time to move on and on that note, I hope the review helps other pondering and potential Mitsubishi owners.
