2013 Mazda 6 Sport Review
Just a disclaimer before I start: I'm actually an L-Plater, and I'm writing about the car which belongs to my parents. Still, I've driven it long enough to feel compelled to write a review about it.
- Stunning value for money, Comfortable seats, Easy to drive, Looks amazing, Quite spacious
- Sat-nav annoying to use, Fuel economy can be a little high , Petrol engine feels sometimes gutless , Road noise
We bought the 2013 Mazda 6 wagon last year after 7 years with 2 Hyundai's. We bought the car after much deliberation and much research. It came down to the Mazda and the VW Passat, but, at the time of purchase, VW was (and still is) having a bit of trouble in the reliability stakes, so my parents decided the Mazda was the way to go. As much as I love VW's (cue annoyed VW-hater comment here), I'm glad we bought the Mazda.
I'll get the negatives out of the way first. The sat-nav isn't very good. It's annoying to use, the constant speed warnings are irritating and the whole system looks after-market. Another problem is the road noise. Mazda have done a great job with the car, but they've failed in to stop constant road noise from intruding in the cabin. And sometimes the fuel consumption can get a little high, whilst the petrol engine occasionally struggles - maybe the diesel would have been a better option?
Now, the positives - and there are many. Mazda MUST be commended in for their efforts in developing such a good looking car, and filling it with has much spec as they have. Sat-nav, reversing camera, auto-lights and wipers - and who'd of though my parents had bought the BASE MODEL. The driving experience is good as well - notably in the way the Mazda is direct and comfortable (except for road noise) around the city or country. Should I mention how good it looks again? There literally is nothing else like it on the market today.
Mazda should well and truly be proud of the Mazda 6. From an L-platers point of view, it's a wonderful car. They just have to make sure they fix the connectivity and the road noise.
