I have owned and still own this car since new and have found it to deliver most of what i have asked of it.
- Powerful, frugal engine. Confident handling, great hwy car. Good safety and build quality
- Expensive repairs. Poor luggage space. Little extras compared to other makes.
Its powerful engine surprises most people and its torque makes driving on the freeways effortless. You rarely need to drop down a gear to overtake or for hills. The acceleration in third gear is better than most cars. The driveline is let down a little by a too short first gear. It feels like a waste of time.
The handling, while not fantastic, is better than most similar cars and you have to be pushing hard to find the limits.
The build quality is comparable to some European makes.
My main gripe with the car is the luggage space. It should have more for the size of the vehicle. My old Peugeot 306 had much more space in the boot for a smaller car. A lot of space is taken up by trim and fuse boxes etc.
I have had one expensive repair which was partially covered under warranty as it is a know issue with these vehicles. Check that the intake manifold swirl flaps have been replaced before buying this car.
Lastly, the interior feels like it is from a much cheaper car. It doesn't feel special in any way, but does the job. There needs to be more storage bins to hold the typical junk that we carry around with us.
