2006 BMW 3 30i Review
When my partner said "i want a new car" i shrieked - His taste is quite exquisite. (generally means expensive)
- Harmon Kardon Stereo is Unbelievable still for todays tech, Performance is great for the time, Handling - 3 Series have always been amazing, Steering - Heavy and direct, Headlights
- Interior dash lights - Orange - Yuck, nearly put you to sleep at night, HARD suspension, Reliability - may be a good idea not to hold onto this one, Can make funny noises on cold starts
After searching for a well performer, that would match with good city economy, for 3 months; this BMW E90 330i M-Sport popped up on CarSales at an out of state respected dealer.
Asking a ridiculous price, and myself being a new vehicle salesman, i eagerly called and got to know a bit about it.
2006 with 170,000kms (highest ks around for the year and model) - BUT -
This thing had everything - Adaptive Cruise, BMW premium sound system with the Professional Nav Screen, Bi-Xenon Adaptive Cornering Headlights, Run-flat tyres, Bi-Modal Exhaust, Comfort Hot weather climate package and the works!
Now, the dealer was asking $25000 driveaway in NSW - I knew that the car would have to be de-registered and re-registered in QLD, so i made a bold offer of $4000 less for the unregistered BMW (plus transport of course) which the dealer reluctantly accepted 4 days later.
2 weeks later and the car arrived with a dodgy radar for the adaptive cruise control, a leaking exhaust and a dint in the front bumper that wasn't in the photos online.
2 weeks later, the water pump failed which was fixed under the purchased used car warranty along with the exhaust. The dint we have grown to love, calling it part of the vehicles character and the Radar for the Cruise Control miraculously started working around this time too.
Since then, the car has been nearly problem free - yes it has a lot of Kilometers and it is getting old, but its not about to show it. She still turns heads and people see the badge, not the Grey hairs protruding from it's nose.
The car drives amazingly for the Kilometers it has driven. The motor and gearbox are untouched - ill very quickly mention the sometimes hard changing, rough gear changes and the silly Sports shift which has been adhered to in the newer models.
Suspension is harder than your mums wooden spoon and it may be out of its league with the new big boys in the market but for the price we paid and the way it handles, i can't see a better car out there.
The BMW's stereo is out of this world and with the subtle note from the new BMW exhaust, the sounds match the looks - Sporty and Elegant.
The performance side, it keeps up with a brand new VF SV6 Commodore, and will easily burn off that blacked-out Honda Civic your neighbour's kid keeps trying to race you in, while still managing a 9.5l/100Km efficiency in the city alone!
If you want an exciting, easy to drive, performance sedan with a good range of features, without going to the expensive running costs and insurance premiums of the V8's or Turbos, stop looking now - you've sound the car.
