2004 Subaru Forester X review
It's a great little car with lots of advantages. It has a boot, for example, which means I don't need to strap my shopping bags to the roof. It also has seats, which means I don't need to strap my kids to the roof.
- The dim lighting in the interior reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- There is a handy compartment for sunglasses... if I could find my sunglasses, I would totally put them there
- My daughter fits easily in the boot
- It's grey... I really would prefer something more festive, like polka dots or sparkly pink
The bumper bar offers lots of padding for when I accidentally reverse into other cars. The horn is exceptionally loud, which is useful for when other cars are accidentally reversing into me.
The car drives pretty smoothly, at least, it does when I'm not accidentally reversing into something.
The handbrake and accelerator are located at a convenient distance from my foot, which is a definite advantage – I mean, the car wouldn't work nearly as well if they were in the back where I couldn't reach them.
And the steering wheel is nice and round. I've never driven a car with a square wheel, but I suspect it wouldn't make for nearly as smooth a ride.
I very much like the seats, as I don't enjoy driving in a vertical position. I also am fond of the radio, except when Kyle and Jackie O are on the air. I don't like them at all.
The engine and transmission combination are great. I mean, I haven't tried cars without an engine or a transmission, so I can't say for sure that they wouldn't work independently, but I think this is a good mix.
My car has been very reliable and practical. It stopped working once when I forgot to put petrol in it, but I honestly don't blame the manufacturer. I blame my ex-husband. It wasn't actually his fault, but I blame him for everything.
The car could be improved by having more coins scattered around. The other day I ran out of milk and all I could find was 20 cents and that doesn't buy shit these days.
Also the fuel cap fell off some time ago, which isn't ideal. Still, as petrol cannot flow upwards this hasn't proved to be a significant problem.
All in all I am very happy with my car. I'd be happier with a better car, but I'm more happy than if I had to walk everywhere, so I really can't complain.
