2015 Citroen DS3 DSport Review - Style, Fun, But Manual Only
Review | 12 Jun 2015

7.0

What’s Hot: Still grabs attention, perky engine and a 'fun fling' on the right road. What’s Not: Interior practicality falls short, starting to feel a little old. X-FACTOR: All the charm of a MINI without the retro baggage. V

Citroen DS3 DSport v Holden Astra GTC Sport v Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo v Kia Pro_cee'd GT : Comparison Review
Comparison | 6 Aug 2015

8.0

The finest mid-$30k 'warm' hatchback on the market? The Kia Pro_cee'd staked its claim 12 months ago, dispatching Hyundai’s poster boy Veloster SR Turbo and Renault’s potent and racy Megane RS265 Sport as the best all-rounder in the sweet spot bridging humble $20k-something conveniences and properly hot $40k-plus hatchbacks.

2012 Citroen DS3 Dsport: owner review
Owner Review | 22 Dec 2019
Ok I will start in saying that the ds3 is an unloved car in Australia but does still have a strong following in Europe, this is undeserved as they are great little cars. I originally brought the car due to its styling and was “sucked in” by the anti-retro advertising as it seemed a lot of cars were going the retro path and I wanted something different and it certainly is I love the styling of it and was worried that it may start to but it has seemed to held up, people still are shocked that it is almost 8 years old when I tell them Inside it is starting to show its age with the red led display for infotainment which is certainly is a far cry from the colour touch screens of today’s cars but it’s something i can certainly live with, the finish and build quality are something that is surprising most people would scoff at Citroen’s saying that the build quality isn’t there however after all this time it only has a minor rattle and everything has held together as if it had just rolled off the production line in France The seating is both comfortable and supportive for the front occupants and there is a surprising amount of room for the back seat passengers even on a longer trip, not bad for a 3 door hatch On the road it is a sweet little car to drive nice and quite on the highway and has a nice little mechanical wind it which reminds me of our old mini when i was a kid Power wise it is ok but it could have done with a bit more, sadly Australia missed out on the ds3 racing model which would have been very nice Now let’s talk about the problems, a big one and that is the psa/bmw developed prince engine under the bonnet sadly this is the car only problem as there is well documented problems of timing chain reliability and I am sure it’s a major reason this car has had a bad reputation, in saying that Citroen did replace mine with no questions before it gave me any problems at no charge to me I have had a couple of other mechanical problems a ignition coil that had a fault ( I still haven’t changed it ) a temperature sensor failed but the worst was the high pressure fuel pump failing which was an expensive exercise to replace but all in all it has been pretty good all of this time I don’t think I would change it ( well except for a bit more power ) and it saddens me that the new ds3 is going to be a 4 door suv which in my eyes goes against the original concept of it and that being anti-retro and standing out from the crowd Yes it’s French and yes it’s not perfect but o still look at it and smile knowing I made the right recision in buying it which is lucky as the resale value is shocking

I've just said goodbye to my DS3 and hello to my C4 Cactus so I thought it was time to write a little thank you to it. I loved my DS3. Stylish from tip to toe - the red roof was matched with a red dash, red side mirrors, red alloy wheel inserts and a red key fob. LED daytime lights, Bluetooth audio streaming and a (partially) digital instrument cluster were all standard before many other cars particularly in this class and size. This small car could still comfortable fit four adults (albeit not on long trips) and it's air conditioner was the best I've ever experienced. Driving up the Princes Fwy in Vic, with 2 adult passengers on a 44 degree day and it would be teeth chatteringly cold. The 4 speed auto was old even then but was smooth and did the job nicely. The engine was gutsy and useful around town, if not the turbo experience offered by the Dsport model. Fuel economy was decent especially on E10 fuel. It had a firm suspension but handled beautifully. The cabin's fit and finish were very high end and faultless, the stereo was exceptional. Much is said about French cars and often it isn't particularly flattering, but this was my first French car and my first Citroen and I can tell you it won't be my last. Not so much as a loose panel, errant vibration or engine hiccup in it's near 6 years with me. Servicing was cheaper than my German made Ford Fiesta that I had before this. I don't know if this is common but it's factory tyres lasted just over 70,000kms which seemed amazing to me. I wasn't as kind to it as I should have been, it was almost exclusively parked in the elements, I didn't wash it enough and it was certainly my workhorse and pack mule but it never complained. I hope it's next owner loves it as much as I.

Great car after 3 years of having I still look at it and other ds3's on the road and smile it handles great and have seen better than Prius fuel economy on a couple of occasions As a person who used to have a strong dislike for French cars this and the Berlingo I had prior has changed my mind about French built cars, yes they have their faults but these faults become their character The handling is sharp and very predictable and great fun to drive, the ride is firm but still complaint of bumps probably one of the only faults is the lack of top end power but by the time you are worried about that your are starting to get worried about points on your license One of the criticisms of the Citroens lately is the placement of controls such as cruise control and audio as they are tucked away behind the steering wheel, it does take a bit of getting used to the fact that they are tucked away but once you have driven the car for a bit it become intuitive and being behind the wheel gives a cleaner look There is a feeling that you get with driving the ds3 where most new cars feel the same, the ds3 gives you the sense it just wants to be driven, to me other cars are like whitegoods yes they do the job yes they do it well but they have no character My next will be another ds3

2014 Citroen DS3 Dstyle Review
Owner Review | 16 Dec 2014
I bought the cabrio model and love it ! I live in Canberra and you can still drive it with the top down in winter due to the great heating system. Everywhere I drive people stop and stare, even old ladies on walking frames. If you want a car that has all the sporty stuff on it, I have the black 17 in wheels and my car is jaune peaganse so it looks amazing ! Sure the boot is tricky, but I can still get my Costco shopping in the boot. Yes it would be nice to have a reversing camera, but then it would up,the cost. I got a great deal and love my car more every day. The capped price service is a great idea, while having 6 years warranty and 6 years road side assist is good too. The car was $10 a month cheaper to insure than my suzuki swift and its a cabrilo. It is even cheaper to service than my Suzuki. I find it handles well, though the second to third gear change ( auto) can be a bit rough. I have only had the car 3 months, so it maybe me ? It's good up hills and has a lot of extra zip. The seats provide good support and I've had 6 ft 2 people in the front and back and they had leg room. I noticed the new model has some extra features like the camera, but the price is $10000 more, so I'm happy with mine how it is.
