BMW files to trademark 'Silent Shadow' name, likely for electrified Rolls-Royce

BMW has filed to trademark the name 'Silent Shadow' in Germany, suggesting that a long-rumoured all-electric Rolls-Royce could be further into development than we previously thought. The paperwork tells us the designation is for "automobiles and their parts," but does not specify the project for which it is destined. Regardless, it's hard to imagine the name – which is reminiscent of the 20th century's Silver Shadow – ending up anywhere else.

BMW believes the recent recovery in real estate prices will help drive the prestige car market, which surged in sales in January.

Volkswagen appoints former Rolls-Royce and BMW chief designer

Jozef Kaban, former head of design for Rolls-Royce, BMW and Skoda, has been appointed as the chief designer for the Volkswagen brand. Kaban will begin his new job on July 1, 2020, presumably because of a non-compete clause in his contract with the BMW Group, where he worked from early 2017 until October this year. From 2017 to March 2019, Kaban was the head of design for the BMW brand. He then moved on to a similar role at Rolls-Royce.
