Mercedes-Maybach GLS to be built in Alabama

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the upcoming Maybach version of the new-generation GLS SUV will be built at its Alabama facility in the US. Speaking with industry journal Automotive News, Mercedes-Benz USA CEO, Dietmar Exler, confirmed the news, describing the upcoming SUV flagship as a "halo car". "The Maybach brand "stands for luxury," he told the publication, "It will help build the Mercedes brand, no question."

If you don't already know, Geneva is in Switzerland. And while some Aussies might miss having motor shows here in Oz, few will see that as enough of an excuse to splash out to attend a major international one. Luckily, this year's 2017 Geneva motor show (on until March 19) was my first, and it was so good, I didn't want anyone to miss out.

Mercedes-Maybach to add large SUV to its ranks, E-Class version ruled out

It appears an even-money bet that the ultra-luxury brand Mercedes-Maybach will add an SUV to its ranks in the future, but there won't be an E-Class Maybach variant despite persistent rumours. The only Mercedes-Maybach models currently on sale are the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and the even lengthier Pullman version, but with SUVs proving lucrative, the range is almost certain to expand to include a high-riding, long-wheelbase, ultra-luxury vehicle of that type.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach : surprise badge return for Rolls challenger

The Maybach name may have been axed as a brand after more than a decade of losses but it will be revived as a badge for a Mercedes-Benz S-Class designed to take on Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Mercedes-Benz had been expected to dip into its limousine history and use the Pullman name for the pinnacle of the company’s flagship, though the S-Class’s chief engineer told Australian media it would instead be Maybach.
